The latest issue of 'Music Week' (dated 21.10.11) has a project profile of The Smiths 'Complete', which consists of an interview with Dan Chalmers, boss of Rhino Records. He says that the project had been in the planning for over ten years but it wasn't until Johnny Marr went into Metropolis Studios in 2008 to set about remastering the tracks that the project took off. Regarding Morrissey, this ~

"There has been no official word, yet, from Planet Moz, but, Chalmers says, 'We hear he likes it. Seymour [Stein] took a copy to him a few weeks ago and we are told that the view was really positive"

Seymour Stein is president of Sire Records, v-p of Warner Bros. Records, signed The Smiths in the US, etc, etc.

Oh dear. Being a Morrissey fan these days isn't easy. What with his comments about the Norwegian massacre and KFC, his pithy views on the Chinese, and now suing the NME for libel three years after the offending article was published, it is becoming a rather heavy cross to bear.

“Spring Heeled Jim” features several samples from "We Are the Lambeth Boys", a 1959 British documentary by Karel Reisz about the daily activities of members of the Alford House Youth Club, Kennington in late 1950s London.

The dialogue excerpted is from two different conversations, one about a fight between young men and another about abolishing of the death penalty. In the song the two conversations are spliced together to make it sound like one. The points of the video in which the dialogue occur are:

24:32 - 25:29 “They’re gonna get a team and go out and do it; Smitty and them”

29:50 - 30:05 “One fellar was in the coper’s arms wasn’t he? And the other had a gun, and he was free, and he shot him.”

31:18 - 31:29 “And they catch him, and they say he’s mental.”
