    From observation.

'Doll' from DATK does not have the 'charisma' of which many may speak. Great voice but she can be heard on several occassions to comment on how important it is for their audience to purchase their CD/album.
This is a hallmark of no confidence in the thought 'Doll' does not believe enough in herself or the band, that they will ever be signed up to a record deal.
I enjoyed DATK but they do not quite attract me enough to purchase an album and definitely not to buy a ticket to see a live show.
And of the Albert Hall, well am afraid you play the Albert Hall and forget your shoes? And then to hop about the RAH stage as though it were your bedroom?
    No.
    Am afraid not.
People are passionate about music and seeing a show live - musicians and artists have to be equally passionate and serious about their presentation.
    If not . . . oblivion calls.

BUT. I honestly think that Doll&Kicks is nothing special. I see too much of other bands and not enough Doll&kicks. I understand, not much room for originality these days, but what sets apart good bands to me, is this: Sure, there will be influences and/or sound-a-likes listening to a band, but the difference between being very great or not is YOUR input as a band to ADD to that. Also in the way you mix around your influences. if you just straight rip off a melody of rhythm, get out. But if you bend an obviously influential riff or melody, turn them inside out and add your flavor on the matter...then fair play to you. You just took and influence and recreated your vision on an influence. And that is something this band does not do, sorry.

  • I've grown to like pretty much all the music Moz swings our way, especially when he is able to bring them to us live:

    Phranc
    Sack
Jaguares (well, ok, he opened for them and I recall was pretty well received ;)
    Kristeen Young
    Girl in a Coma
    Red Cortez
    Courteeners
    Doll and the Kicks

They all write their own music, have singers with a great belt to their voice and sing with their heart & soul, and are powerful performers.

As are all the bands above, Doll and the Kicks are a great bunch and are thankfully not shy with their talent. They are absolutely fun to watch and some of the ballads on special nights have even brought me to tears.

Everyone doesn't have to like them or hate them just because of this article or others who've already made up their minds. But I would suggest that if you haven't seen them yet, give them a chance and check them out for yourself.

I read little positive about her and cannot say that I like her music either. So when Morrissey gets a bottle thrown at his head there is an uproar but if people are civilized enough to not boo and throw rotten tomatoes then it means that they love what is presented to them? Have you ever studied any psychology, and read about 'projection' and 'transference'?

It's really presumptous (and self-defeating, really) to read into other ppl's thoughts, emotions and reactions etc. Even if you know them very well.

A few examples of scenarios you probably haven't yet considered but are perfectly possible alternatives to your "She gave me evils!' might be:

-She was daydreaming, and thinking about a time when she was angry/pissed off at something, and looked at you. This happens to me quite alot, and I have frequent afterthoughts along the lines of "Oh, I hope that stranger didn't think I was scowling at THEM!"

-(using a more text book psychological instance) you reminded her very literally of someone who was bad to her in her past, and she reacted to that memory

    -she was in physical pain with a migraine, flu, an injury etc, which leads to the wider point of, you might have misinterpreted her look;

It's not unusual for me to not know whether someone is laughing or crying, if they have an ambiguous laugh/cry. I'm not autistic, I'd say I'm very sensitive to the moods of others, and I have a very great interest in human emotion etc. To say "I know that's an arrogant look" about someone you don't know, is silly- in fact it's arrogant (hah! projection) because you simply don't know that. That might be how their face NATURALLY is! That might be their thinking face. That might be their "Oh fudge, I've just started my period and I hope no one is watching" face.

It's my life ambition to give up on trying to attribute my own thoughts and ideas to other ppl. It's a big task, but to the degree that I've succeeded, I've become more peaceful. And truthful/accurate. And insightful (into my own thought processes, if not the possible thought processes of others).

The 'daddy's girl' comment is more obviously loaded (and really- is it not received wisdom that sons love their mums and daughters love their dads? Is that really what you want to pick on?) what exactly are you gleaning that observation from? Do you know the woman well? Are you friends with her family? Have you read her journal?

If the answer to those is no, then you're very definitely in the realms of projection and transference. Join the club, for so is the rest of our species :-). But you get more peace of mind, and offend others less, when you realise that's the case and can soothe yourself accordingly.

What I'm saying is- use your reason. Break down and deconstruct your own thoughts. You can't know she was thinking arrogant/bitchy thoughts about you. If she was, the reason was surely to do with her own 'shit' and not about you personally. Do you literally think she is having thoughts along the lines of "I am superior to you, I dislike you", and expressing them facially at you? If you go that far with your thinking, then fair enough thats one theory; and even that can have its sting taken out of it by remembering that all such arrogance is based on deep insecurity (and I believe all humans have that. Would you agree?). If you don't go that far, then use your will power to stop the thought that you were sleighted. I'm sure its not a pleasant thought. There's a good, and logical chance that it's not true, also.

Pardon me for writing such a long post dissecting your short post, but I very strongly believe that what you wrote demonstrates the unhappy consequences of unexamined thinking, and I strongly believe there's an alternative to being a slave to one's (pessimistic) thoughts.
