"Surely John Inman and Morrissey could never appear in the same scene. Well, they do. Sort of. This is a new kind of impression show."

Your chance to listen again (starts at 15:45)

A very posh, slightly camp, yet intellectual-sounding Morrissey giving John Inman a few tips (no pun intended!) on Frankenstein and a few other things.

For those outside that don't know - John Inman was a well-loved actor from a BBC 70s TV show called "Are You Being Served?". The sitcom was about the goings-on in a department store. John Inman played a slighly camp gents outfitter, Mr Humphries.
When asked -- "Mr Humphries, are you free?", he would tout his timeless catchphrase "I'm Free!!"

Find out more about John, his career, and hear that that classic catchphrase here...

  • truly feeble - poor impression, poor concept, poor script - the moz character sounds more like melvyn bragg and the inman sounds like alan carr doing alan bennett... and even that makes it sound better than it is... (in fact a few minutes after the moz/inman there is an even more tired bennett spoof)

  • The Morrissey voice was embarrassingly bad....concept pretty stupid as well.

  • Isn't Mr Morrissey sounding like a Northern Oscar Wilde a bit of a cliche ? it was about as feeble as the Spitting Image impressions of David Bowie circa 1985

Far more amusing this week was the gay couple on Eastenders buying a bed from Dagenham Dave.

Are You Being Served is one of my favorite television shows. I started watching it on PBS back in the late 80's / early 90's. Mrs. Slocumbe with her crazy hair and side splitting "have you seen my pussy?" along with the hysterical sharp wit of Mr. Humphries made for a must see every Sunday night. I think I've seen every show!

I didn't click on the link above in the news story. From the comments, I'm glad I didn't. But, it's nice to think about the show and how much I really enjoy it. I wish BBC America would pick it up. Right now they're too concerned with Star Trek: The Next Generation...and why, I have NO idea.
