via Simon Goddard's blog, Lady Gaga calls Morrissey "my buddy"

"Because we were in Manchester, and since her album was called The Fame, I asked if she agreed with the words of a certain local bard that “fame, fame, fatal fame… can play hideous tricks on the brain.”

“Yes. I love that song,” Gaga replied in her Manhattan robo-drawl. “Sometimes when I’m on stage I do this thing with my voice where I go… fame, Fame, FAME! Which is sort of my homage to that.” At the time I wasn’t sure if Gaga was bluffing (with her muffin) until three months later when another interviewer asked the name of her “favourite celebrity with style.” After a few seconds pause she answered, “Morrissey.” Since then she’s Tweeted Smiths lyrics and has even alluded to conversations with Morrissey who she described with alarming casualness as “my buddy”.

So, there you have it. Lady Gaga is an actual “apostle”. An uncanny postscript to this, and the reason her Brits performance brought this all back, is my regret that I forgot to give her my intended gift - a spare copy of the Jobriath Lonely Planet Boy compilation. I’d reasoned as a Bowie fan and New York art junkie that if she hadn’t heard his stuff she may like it. Watching her play Telephone at the Brits makes me think she would have, or possibly already does. Close your eyes and it’s like listening to a Jobriath ballad as sung by Etta James."

  • This douche is a gaga fan? That explains a lot. What's with the title of this article? Lady Gaga OVER Morrissey? Where does it suggest she is over him?

      It was poorly worded.
Honestly, it makes sense to me. Morrissey may excoriate Pop music in the press, but he's shown time and again that he has a weak spot for fluffy music.

It's nothing new. Think back to the 80's, and his brief association with Pete Burns from Dead or Alive. Morrissey is like a pop music Jackdaw. If it sparkles, he seems to want it.

  • Lady Gaga is a modern illness. She is not talented, she is a gimmick. She herself thinks she is talented or "an artist". She is not. She is a clothes horse with "wacky" looks. She is a useless modern celebrity.

  • Add her to the not so growing list of annoying celebrities that are expressing like for Morrissey. Hilary Duff was seen sporting a Morrissey shirt a while ago. But really, what's wrong with a little love for Moz and his former band? If they like him, why can't they say so?

And if you read the title, you can tell that she is "GAGA" over Morrissey, not that she's done with him. It's a pun.

  • Lady Gaga makes Kristeen Young look good. Lady Gaga, whether he/she likes Morrissey is his/her opinion and is entitled to it. I just don’t envision Morrissey putting her or him (whatever it is) on his things to do list. Buddy goes with and there is a correlation between Buddy and Kris. The wonder kid.

Whatever floats their boat. Just cannot envision the Morrissey having a cocktail with Lady Lala, or eating dinner together. They just don’t … Belong.

She may be a passing fad, but i love her for her outfits alone. At times they seem so bizarre and unsexy...totally distracting from what your standard "sexy female starlet" is supposed to adorn and perform in. Whatever annoys people more, the better.
My 60 year old friend and co-worker loves Lady Gaga. She told me that when Miss Gaga was in high school she was this shy, mousy thing. Not unlike our Morrissey, who eventually became a huge influence on the modern music world.
So i can completely see the Morrissey-Gaga connection, even though they seem worlds apart.

  • I think I've seen this phenomenon on a number of occasions over the years, where someone convinces themselves (and many others) that a quite bland pop outfit, does indeed have 'hidden depths'. If you don't watch out you can talk yourself into believing it just because you want the assurance that everything in pop isn't pap. It's a kind of inverted snobbery that people do, as a boost to their own ego, as if they can somehow see worth in places where others cannot. It's one step away from religious mania, where someone swears they've been touched by the hand of god and other mere mortals are blind to him. Yamaha
