Last Sunday's LA Pool Party on BBC Choice featured a piece on LA's Hispanic Morrissey fans and The Sweet & Tender Hooligans which was mentioned on this site a few months ago. The piece is narrated by the lovely Miss Jayne Middlemiss and you can hear comments from some Morrissey-solo regulars.

Here is the audio: LA Pool Party - BBC Choice 18/11/01 (Real Audio file, 1MB, 4:11)

  • Fiddlesticks! I would have watched this as well, but they would go and put it on BBC Choice, I mean, does anybody actually watch that channel? Why? It's crap.

More to the point, who were the Morrissey-solo regulars that were on there? Just curious.

I thought the clip of the Sweet and Tender Hooligans didn't really do thenm justice. My sister and me saw them when they played the Star and Garter. I thought they were excellent, when I saw them then. We actually spoke to Jose himself before the show (gasp). Well, my sister did. Are you reading this Jose? Do you remember us? No, no I didn't think so.

  • Don't they repeat this show on BBC1 or something? I mean, I don't have BBC Choice, but I seem to remember switching over from some lame "Pool Party" thing a few weeks ago because, Ms Middlemiss notwithstanding, it looked pretty uninteresting. Anyone?

Everytime something about the latino fans is posted on this web site, some jealous people start their attacks on them. I'm not a latino, so you don't need to reply: Oh, you mexicans are so blah blah, you make us look so bad, blah blah. I don't care what you think about them, I just find really insulting the way some of you treat them. When will you finally understand that Morrissey loves his latino fans? Are you jealous because they are not talking about you? Tsc Tsc Tsc, so sad.

  • Those guys are great!, How could anyone say such nasty things about The Sweet and Tender Hooligans they are the coolest band you could ever see and meet! You know, once you get to know them they really are Sweet and Tender! Jose is the most nicest, sincere, and down to earth guy! he is truly one-of-a-kind, my heart broke as I read all this nasty jazz about them from people who haven't even met or seen then performe. How could you be so vile? But as they say JELOUSY KILLS!! so, instead of bagging on them give them credit trying to keep the Morrissey mood around a little longer. I wish I could just slap those with their ignorant comments right smack in the face!, but until then get that stick out of your ass for once, will you??

  • When I know it makes things hard for me trying to find out when the bloody show's being transmitted????

I'm really angry at having missed this. Couldn't Moz-solo have informed us that it was coming on last Sunday? Us British fans have a hard enough time as it is, let alone missing the only Morrissey-tribute thing to be shown this side of the water.

I hope BWTT, Scotchgal (I know who you are :) ) and Biffo unite with me on this one by taking a stance.

  • It's not so much that they sound bad, cos some of the guys are good musicians. It's just the way the leader singer carries himself - he's a prick, and how some fans treat him as he were Morrissey. (i.e. jumping on stage, making out w/ him... etc) There seems to be more reasons for SATH doing this, than just for fun...

    Awaits bashing from SATH loyals!
    Anonymous -- Monday November 26 2001, @06:53PM (#21815)
  • Hey everyone please stop with both the racism and the put downs of SATH and their fans. First of all racism is absurd anywhere, but especially among people who are supposedly intelligent. Second, there is nothing wrong with a band going out and having a good time playing music we all love. Morrissey has been absent from the scene for a while now and we need a little live action now and then. Being a BIG fan of the Hooligans myself, I am insulted by some peoples comments about us being "lambs" who think Jose is the real Morrissey and are just basically trying to get in his pants. Jose is married and very much in love with his wife. Any speculation on affairs outside this marriage are merely that, specualtion. Don't start rumors, they can hurt everyone. The band has fun, the fans have fun, there is no need to analyse what Morrissey would think (and actually he really likes SATH) or to insult those who enjoy taking part. I hope any one who posted a harsh comment reads this and re-evaluates the reasons behind their verbal attacks.
