  • Rhino Records made a brilliant work on Echo & The Bunnymen's "Crystal Days" and every single bunny-fan is really happy with that box-set... so why not expect something similar this time?
    common and vulgar compilations are not Rhino's style.

  • This is great news. On the same day Rhino will be releasing:
    Lawrence Welk "Polka Faves"
    Milli Vanilli "Morrisseys' albums are getting bogus like ours"
    Poison "All Time Glam Slam"
    Dino "That's the Way Moz Likes It"
    New Kids On The Block "At least this is our FIRST greatest hits"
    Morrissey "Best Of"

    It's good to see our boy joining the ranks with such fine artists. Please get off your lazy ass and record a new cd already.

  • This one will look great on my CD rack...right next to 'the very best of the smiths'!

    Or is morrissey going to issue a statement soon not to buy this one as well...?

    Sad that the only interesting release of 2001, 'south with morrissey' was killed off, while we will get 2 worthless compilations and 9 reissued singles

    But apart from sarcasm, it is no suprise. A year ago another Reprise compilation was mentioned, and a few weeks ago a Rhino compulation was mentioned on this site.

    No question, that Rhino makes superb compilations. But i still remember the 'MEBY' disapointment.

  • ...which is that Rhino is owned by WARNER, which is why they are putting out this comp in the first place. I admit a soft spot for Rhino but really they are just a slightly hipper front for the company that has been recycling the old Smiths/Moz material for years. (PS The Bmen were on Warner too.)

    Now if only we could get HBO (part of AOL Time Warner) to show South with Morrissey! Look at the way they have been pumping Madonna (another Warner 'artist') on AOL and HBO....

  • Time to get all your stupid whining out of the way. Let it all out...There is no way this or any other comp will satisfy any of you. These" best of"comps are not for you.You don't have to buy them.You don't have to waste your energy shitting on everybody that works for the record company. You don't have to waste your time on posts that are only ever read by the same 20 people. You might want to go out and find some other music to listen to while Morrissey prepares his next record. He won't mind.He is a fan too remember. The recent group of MP3 tracks bears out that he has looked out for us well by only releasing whats good. Face it . None of you will never be satisfied.I really would like to know what would make any of you into anything more than the sniveling shits you all seem to be!

            • What? You're telling me he was born in Manchester? No! I'm flabbergasted! Where do you get that kind of insider info?
              OK now, I'm getting carried away for the second time in a row. So let me rephrase:
              -I find other's views on whether Moz owes us anything immaterial; I do believe he created this fuss by mentioning "Irish Blood, English Heart" in the first place, so he must deal with the pressure;
              -I refuse to pat Morrissey on the head and go like "it's okay dear, have another cookie". I will not patronize the greatest pop artist ever;
              -I read your posts,and I find you a very sweet person, but please don't overdo it! Every single Moz fan on this planet knows there's unreleased material available (as seen on the wonderful Mr.Shankly site, plus "Kit" etc)! Got no record deal? OK, so phone Johnny Marr and do something about the Smiths box set, or, at the very least, release another live CD!(While you're reading this, please keep in mind that we're talking about the man who made "Strangeways" and "Viva Hate" in the same year, not J.J. Cale or Stanley Kubrick).
              Every time I hear that another compilation's on the market I feel like I'm getting slapped in the face! I interpret this best-ofs cash-ins as saying "look, I'm after another kind of following right now; forget you ever heard me, got my records, loved my songs and defended me from countless accusations (Morrissey's racist/ just a fag/ lost it after the Smiths broke up)".
              Just before you mention it, yes I have reason to believe he or somebody close to him follows what's said on this site. So please allow me to quote a complaint penned by the Bard himself:

              "Did I really walk all this way/ Just to hear you say/ Oh I don't want to go out tonight?"

  • this must be the record deal the people at KROQ were talking about! ;^)

    But seriously....I understand that Rhino usually is a good re-release catalogue. They're releasing old MST3K's, are the home of Jonathan Richman, and piece together some cool compilations like the Lomax tapes (I THINK that's them...i'm too lazy to get up and check in my livingroom) and so forth.

    And obviously Moz hasn't posted a letter urging you not to buy it, so they must be doing something to either make him happy or not care that much one way or the other.....

  • I know this comment has nothing to do with this thread but I would like to thank Morrissey for letting us have these un-released songs. I know he probably had it in his power to stop this but I'm greatful he didn't. Mr. Morrissey... Good Night and Thank You.
