Just thought I'd pass this along... the straightedge hardcore band Good Clean Fun has just released their new record titled "Straight Outta Hardcore" which is compiled of cover songs (ranging from Ice Cube, Youth of Today, Green Day, The Smiths etc.) the track they covered was "Last Night, I Dreamt Somebody Loved Me" but changed it to "Last Night, I Dreamt an Emo Kid Loved Me"...

like GCF had done before, on previous cover songs, switched a few lyrics around and added their own comedy touch... but I must add this isn't a very good cover... but if you're into hardcore/punk rock (note: I said punk rock not pop-punk like Blink-1shitty2, Sum 41, etc.) then you should check it out... hehe, why, is it that most hardcore and punk bands/kids are fans of Morrissey but 90% of all Smiths/Morrissey fans are too closed minded to listen to hardcore or punk rock?... hmmm....

There is a clip of the song on this Good Clean Fun site and apart from the title I can't see or hear any resemblance to the original it supposedly covers.

  • Damn...they suck......this is a good example of non-inventive, boring punk. You're right on one aspect, outside of the title (which doesn't even match), they don't even come close lyrically or musically to make this a cover.

  • What the hell is he saying? I mean if a band is going to do a remake, at least make it sound a little bit like the original song and I don't just mean the title either.

  • I'm not sure how much of a generalisation that is, but we should all be aware of our roots, especially Morrissey's, had it not been for punk rock I doubt very much England & then the rest of the World would have had any 'Indie' movement to talk of at all. (Just my opinion).

p.s. to Hulme it may concern, You can take the man out of Stretford but you can never take Stretford out of the man. It doesn't matter how many times you treat your roots they always show through eventually.

  • Well, it sounds quite different to the original song. I like punk rock and sxe bands (gcf, h20, Youth of today, Gorilla Biscuits), but unfortunately our local stright edge scene consists merely of something like sxe-faschists. They don't like anyone drinking or smoking around at their locations, they think they're so fucking better than the rest of the world, maybe they don't see, they drift a bit away from this real world they'd like to life in. That's the same as many smiths/moz fans around here...
