There is an article in the 7.12.01 edition of the Seattle Weekly on The Deftones and Chino Moreno says this about Morrissey...
"I was thinking about Morrissey last night and why I like him so much. The MF'er's smart, man. He comes across as insecure, but he's so cocky at the same time. That's rad. I listen to some songs now that I remember hearing when I was younger and it's like, damn, that's what he was talking about. I just f'ing love music, man."

  • Ha! That Chino has always been a fan of Morrissey.

I think he's very brave 'coming out' (as it were!) to the 'rawk' world about his love for The Smiths/Morrissey.

Apparantly, he does this fantastic impression of our dear Moz! I'd love to see and hear it!

(And, the Deftones aren't THAT bad, they're a world better than bloody Korn and Limp Bizkit... but then again, who isn't?)

I like Chino and so should YOU!

  • Kudos to Chico for hitting on one of Mozzer's greatest qualities -- his ability to convey ambivalence. In songs and interviews Morrissey frequently expresses both one feeling or state of being and its opposite; he mixes humor with sadness, anger with warmth and shyness with audacity. This ability to juxtapose one thing against its opposite separates Morrissey from countless performers who tend to fixate on solely one end of a given spectrum. (The relentless negativity of NIN comes to mind.)

  • My first and only question is: who the hell are "the Deftones"?

True friends stab you in the front.
  • Ok. I am someone with, in my opinion, a great amount of musical knowledge. I am also fairly opinionated with music and I hold high creative standards. As a musician (guitar) I also hold myself to these creative standards.
Why the negativity towards the Deftones? Have you HEARD them? If not, envision a sound between The Cure's Disintigration Album and Tool's Opiate. A totally original sound that is both heavy and often sedating. This is the kind of originality that has been missing from the music scene, with few noted exceptions, for a decade. Listen to "Digital Bath" or "Rx Queen" and judge for yourself. You should also listen to the "Pasenger" duet with the before mentioned Tool front man Maynard James Kenan. After listening to this, sample their wilder side with "pink maggit" as the source. I honestly can't see how anyone could not appreciate this band. Unless that someone was still mourning for the 80's and afraid to move on. I guess we all have our own tastes. Give them a try. You can search for and download the above mentioned songs in .mp3 format at the below address.
