  • I used to be a devoted fan of Lloyd, I remember even that in the first time I went to see him I asked for one encore (he was accepting suggestions) and he played 2CV. Some years later I saw him again, this time at Queima das Fitas, the festival promoted by the Academy, and everything went wrong. However, festivals organized by students and paid mainly by sponsors are supposed to be that mess, so I was a bit shocked when he started playing at 4:30 in the morning and said: "if I were of your age, I would be in bed at this time" (or something of the kind). I mean, I agree that sometimes that environment is hateful, people shouting silly things, drunk people and so on, I know he was really nice to have stayed despite all the problems, but did he have to say that??? This year he played again at the festival but I didn't go to see him, I mean, I still like him, only slightly less than I used to.

  • Lloyd Cole has been a fan of Morrissey's ever since 1886 I think, in an interview in that French magazine Debut he mentioned how he thought he could get along quite well with him, and how he loved his stage presence.

Interestingly, Sandie Shaw covered one of Lloyd's songs. It was "Are You Ready To Be Heartbroken" off of his Rattlesnakes album. I heard her singing it live on a B-side to something that I can't remember. And Lloyd has covered many a Marc Bolan song, as B-sides. "The Slider", "Children of the Revolution", "Mystic Lady"

  • lloyd sure has some great taste. rather broad range as well. i would have to agree that the smiths "queen is dead" and "behaviour" by the PSB are both on my top ten, while "hot buttered soul", "the white album", and "the slider" `are really up there...and i would say that "beggars banquet" is probably my favorite stones record...so go lloyd. his new album was pretty darn good.

  • That was the PSB's best musical moment. Behaviour brought about a human side to "electronic" music. Buy it

  • Mainstream's "From the Hip" is a true masterpiece. Moz said in an interview that Cole's a more interesting person than one could surmise from his songs w/ the Commotions (or something like that).
Cole was also indirectly responsible for bringing the great writer Raymond Carver to my attention.

  • I loved the Commotions albums, and in fact they seem to have special relevance, since I got into them at exactly the same time as the Smiths. I don't think he has ever quite matched them, although there have been a few great songs on subsequent albums. I hear good things about his 'negatives' stuff, but not being a big rock fan these days, I haven't yet checked it out.

Love the PSB's 'behaviour' album as well.

Top LC track? 'why I love country music' from 'Easy Pieces'.
