I have no connection to the band, other than I feel truly blessed when I play their record. To quote a local paper; “Tossing off his jacket and crooning about fractured love like the black Morrissey, the singer eventually ended up on his knees, howling like a wounded animal.” Do we need to know anymore? Murray Lightburn of Montreal strum-pop combo the Dears, a band still not signed by a major label.

Check them out, and by the way they offer free tracks.

  • Certainly a good band. They were interviewed on MuchMusic(the wedge) last friday. The VJ interviewing them brought up the "black Morrissey" thing; Lightburn seemed a little insulted!
Afterwards, the Dears' "End of a Hollywood Bedtime Story" video was played, followed by "Tommorrow" by our very own Steven Patrick.

    What can i say?
  • I was lucky enough to catch the Dears in NY last year during the CMJ festival. I really enjoyed their set and am happy to have been introduced to their music. This was one band that really loves to play together. (Which is *so* important!)

I bought their CD at the show and it's also quite good. I'm a huge fan of Bowie and I'm willing to bet there are some Bowie fans in the band. There are tons of Bowieisms sprinkled throughout the album. 'Tis a beautiful thing, if you ask me. Generally speaking, their music is uplifting while not being overly perky.
