Two Ex-Smiths Sniffing For Record Deal

Excerpt:
In what can either be viewed as a slap in the face for Joyce and Rourke or a blessed coming for diehard Smiths fans, Specter's Sunday show at New York's Don Hill's will be part of the second annual Smiths tribute night, titled "This Night Has Opened My Eyes" after the song of the same name which appeared on the Smiths' 1984 singles collection Hatful of Hollow.

  • Blessed coming?? No, more like a slap in the face.

  • i hope that spector does get a good deal i thought that they should have been more involved with the songwriting in the smiths days.

True friends stab you in the front.
  • I am very happy to report that Specter was in fine form both nights in New York. I had the opportunity of visiting with both of them and was deeply impressed with 1. their lack of bitterness at being the centerpiece of a Smiths/ Moz night and 2. comaraderie.

Eventhough no live Smiths songs were played, Andy Rourke slipped the bass line from This Charming Man between songs, evoking cheers. Overall, I was happy to see that the rythym section of The Smiths is getting on with their musical careers the same way that Morrissey and Marr have been. Now we just wait for Moz's next record deal, next album, next tour.

  • Well, the show last night was a disaster. But, not all hope was lost. There was only about 20 people there when the guys went on at 12:35am! The sound kept going out on the bass and it held everything up. Mike and Andy were in great spirits though. Very nice guys. They signed my Smiths stuff and even shared a drink with me! I did not love the new stuff but it is not horrible. Sort of like a British Matchbox 20. I was just so happy to have a chance to hang out with these two legends. Thanks!
