  • Someone at the link suggested that there was an unreleased song called "father and son". but i seem to remember that father and son became "how soon is now". am i right or just imagining it?
Either way, wouldn't it be a holy grail to hear a new smithsong?

  • I mentioned this last week in one of the headlines. Now the NME knows, who knows this might be it after all. And to think Moz did give the permission too release them after all.

  • A new song would be fab. Let's just hope it's not another "Melanie."

  • The songs that NME speaks of are old Smiths songs, just different versions. There are no completely new Smtihs songs that have not be released.

  • Oh well..... (Score:1, Informative)

One thing The Smiths did not do for us unfortunately is leave any kind of sizeable back catalouge....essentially everything has been released!

  • Anyone who has read 'The Sausage Appliance' will remember mention of a version of Elvis Presley's 'A Fool Such As I,' recorded by The Smiths, but damaged by a careless engineer. The unfortunate individual accidentally taped over the first several bars of the song, though I'm sure we'd all like to hear the rest of it.

I've never heard any Smith refer to a recording of 'Father and Son,' though Morrissey clearly mentions the song in his Melody Maker interview in 1985. I think he also commented on it during some of his solo interviews, circa 'Bona Drag,' saying that the song had been scrapped. I've also read that the song did indeed become 'How Soon Is Now.'

Can anyone add to this info.?
