In the last 4 years or so not a week has gone by without some sort of news update on the front page - there have always been a lot of trivial facts on this site along with the bigger news items, but in the last few weeks trivial items are all there seem to have been.

Do you mind the more trivial updates or should they only happen when there is some actual news? This could mean breaks of 2 weeks or longer between updates. Personally I have always been interested in the trivial stuff but I can see how it can be annoying to some people also.

During this time I have kept busy working on upgrading the site to the new version 2.0 of slash (the code backend which this site uses) which will be released shortly. There are a couple of new features but for the most part I think the major changes are in the architecture which will make adding new features to the site much easier. As always, suggestions and constructive criticism regarding the site are welcome. Once the new code is in place (it will take a while, maybe a month or two) I will then be looking to spread some of the responsibilities of the site, like posting news items and polls. I've got some people in mind already but if anyone else has a strong interest in helping out, let me know. Otherwise, I appreciate those who have continued to contribute to the site in any way they can, by continuing to submit stories and interesting comments.

  • It does suck that news items are lately really trivial, and this does not bode well for Morrissey, or his fans. HOWEVER I really, really like coming here and reading things, and posting and conversing with other deadbeats such as myself.
Its not the news you sell Dave, its the community.

So let us make fun of the trivial stories such as
"Smiths song played at Local area Birthday party",
and don't take it to mean anything more than it is.
Joshing, posting, talking, certainly not living, but close enough, don't take that away from me.

As always this site is a beacon and life saving bouy in an endless ocean of worthless websites. Thanks always. and have a Happy Mothers Day.

  • Personally I think that the trivial isn't needed.
However, that's only my opinion. If the masses do feel that their day is more complete having heard such news, then by all means, keep posting the trivial.
Ultimately, Morrissey will have to do something soon or there will be an unfortunate influx of people like me.

  • Dave When there is no Moz news -

Why not Make the News up yourself.

There are 2 ways to do this, both have there own cavets (sic). First Make your own Moz news.
    Example Headlines

"Morrissey attacked outside his home by popular moz website owner"
"Morrissey loses cool, and swears "Fuck off" after being prank called 150 times, by popular moz website owner"
"Morrissey May phone bill, $72.22, $33.87 dollars International calls, according to stolen phone bill presented by popular moz website owner"
"Morrisseys' copy of Maxim stolen from Mailbox by popular Moz website owner"

Note you wouldn't be lying, you would actually do these things and then report it. So you would proactivly create Moz news. Also You should never refer to your self as davidt, only by "popular moz website owner", or davidt(different one), etc. This would add to the mystique of the narrative.

Next you could create Moz news yourself, up to the limit of your own creativity. You wouldnt have to rely on facts or things that are printed, no checking sources, just complete deciet and exciting news. Many news organazations (sic), such as the NY Times, already have use this type of reporting.

    Example Headlines
Morrissey Meets Minnesota Gov. Jesse Ventura to discuss human rights issues in China.
Morrissey Show at the Apollo Raises Hopes in Harlem
Morrissey Weeps Over Killing of Old Yeller

You get the idea. Better minds then mine could do quite a bit of good work here. So here you would be untied from all reality and could write at your will.

Now you say but what good is news if its fake, well first its entertaining, but beyond that, you don't differentiate between real news, real news you create, and news you makeup. It will keep us all on our toes and will be loads of fun.

    Best wishes, and good luck.

  • I think something this site could do with is a cool message board. The one I use a lot is the one on Hole.com. Despite not liking Hole that much, there is a good sense of community and message boards for different things such as Hole-related stuff, internet stuff, and then another message board where you can just talk about anything. I have made a few friends there and it is good because you are not restricted by certain subjects. There is also private messaging. I realise that this probably costs a lot andcourtney can well afford it, as she posts on the site too, but surely we could have a cheap and simple way of bonding with each other! It sometimes feels a bit lonely out her in Moz-land.

PS: I would love to help with the site.

  • hi there,
my preference would be for a regular update e.g. every wednesday. i know it would probably be more hassle for david t or (maybe it would be easier for him to organise things this way?), but that would stop me looking every day and getting that sinking feeling when there is no news again!

perhaps a more immediate update would be good if there was any big news (tour/record deal etc) but a weekly update including trivial stuff would be ideal for me.

anyway don't get too depressed out there in morrissey fan land! in very recent interviews boz claims there are 15 songs ready to go and another 10 or so works in progress, and alain says the priority now is for a new morrissey album and tour, so you get the feeling that things are about to start moving...

however, it is deeply depressing to be nearly half way thru ANOTHER year with no immediate sign of new songs.

I do check out the site daily in hope of finding a new page that will distract me from work for a few minutes. Sometimes I do it compulsively, just out of boredome or out of routine. But I do like to read the small items, like the current Pet Shop Boys item.

However, I must admit that my heart sank when I thought David was going to say that he was going to stop posting regularly until there was news to report. So I guess that means my vote is for the frequent updates.

But how long can this go on? Morrissey, send one thoughtful letter to give us an update, or just to say hello. How about a Web-exclusive interview? I think that could sustain us for a while. Are you out there?
