Christina sends word that Pete Yorn did an acoustic version of "Panic" on the March 27 KCRW (Santa Monica, CA) show "Morning Becomes Eclectic" (broadcast archive, Real Audio required for broadcast). The cover begins at around 22:30 into the broadcast and includes the lyric change "Panic on the streets of Los Angeles, Dublin, Dundee, Echo Park..."

In the interview (around 17:00 into the broadcast), he mentions singing in a fake English accent when he first started out and being known as "the Morrissey rip-off guy" and that The Smiths had a heavy influence on him, "melodically especially."

  • This is a pretty nice acoustic version of Panic, I did like the mention of Los Angeles and Echo Park. Pretty Funny....

Panic on the streets of London

Panic on the streets of Birmingham

    I wonder to myself

Could life ever be sane again ?

The Leeds side-streets that you slip down

    I wonder to myself

Hopes may rise on the Grasmere

But Honey Pie, you're not safe here

    So you run down

To the safety of the town

But there's Panic on the streets of Los Angeles

    Dublin, Dundee, Echopark

    I wonder to myself

    Burn down the disco

    Hang the blessed DJ

Because the music they constantly play

IT SAYS NOTHING TO ME ABOUT MY LIFE

    Hang the blessed DJ

Because the music they constantly play

On the Leeds side-streets that you slip down

    Provincial towns you jog 'round

Hang the DJ, Hang the DJ, Hang the DJ Hang the DJ, Hang the DJ, Hang the DJ HANG THE DJ, HANG THE DJ, HANG THE DJ HANG THE DJ, HANG THE DJ HANG THE DJ, HANG THE DJ Hang the DJ, Hang the DJ, Hang the DJ HANG THE DJ, HANG THE DJ HANG THE DJ, HANG THE DJ Hang the DJ, Hang the DJ, Hang the DJ HANG THE DJ, HANG THE DJ HANG THE DJ, HANG THE DJ Hang the DJ, Hang the DJ, Hang the DJ HANG THE DJ

  • That was horrible. Put down the water bong and create something yourself.

Pete Yorn is actually really good. His debut disc that has just been released has some really cool stuff on it. Check it out. It sure beats David Gray.
