San Diego band 'Pony Death Ride' air their pastiche composition, "I think my Boyfriend's gay for Morrissey"

Lyrics -
My boyfriend, he's always lifting weights
and when he's finished, he takes me out on dates
and when we get home, he goes back to lifting weights
he's a man's man, he eats his soup right outta the can

He wears a Smiths shirt, every time that we make love
we used to go together, just like a hand in glove
he says he loves me, but only slightly, only slightly less than he used to, oh love

he's fine until the music starts, then he won't touch my female parts

I think my boyfriend's gay for Morrissey, Still ill is how I feel
caught between a world of steak and poetry, our house is filled with daffodils

What can i do to make you love me more?
(man) Oh you're just fine dear, but could you wear a pompador?
not just an obsession, it lasted 20 years, 7 months, and 27 days and now i'm alone...

I think my boyfriend's gay for Morrissey, I still love him of course
caught between a world of sex and celibacy, he got confused and killed a horse. -

    the line

    'my boyfriend's gay cause/about/whatever Morrissey'

not necesarilly, and bit ruins it.

didn't hear the track, but this line iritated me,

  • I just lost IQ points reading the lyrics.

Will they write a version for Michael Stipe, too?

How stupid. The author(s) need to grow up.

  • Hey, I gotta give them credit for trying, and just the fact that they can play instruments makes them more talented than me, but goddamn that song is terrible. The lyrics show cleverness in a few isolated spots, but the rhyming scheme of the first verse sounds straight outta King Leer. And borrowing a guitar lick or two is a nice form of tribute, but this went too far. Beyond homage and into just laziness on the part of the musicians

I applaud their effort, really, but this is atrocious.

About the fact that the protagonist's girlfriend thinks he isn't as special as Morrissey is.

"Atrocious"?"Rip off"? Wow, easy people! Kinda harsh, don't you think? For those who liked the song or at least understood where it was coming from, thank you. And good for you! Its not a slight on Morrissey, its meant out of respect. It derives from the fact that everytime i've seen him live, people seem to fall in love with the guy, men, straight men included! I always thought that was pretty amazing. Its simply written from the point of view of the guy's girlfriend. My girlfriend has had to listen to me carry on about Morrissey quite often, and i'm sure she's not alone. Its trying to use wit and humor about a man who's spent his whole career making a living of of wit and humor. The fact that the music is a Smith's song is on purpose. It would have much easier to bang out some chords and throw some predictable lyrics over top. So "lazy" it is not. I would've been better off sending in a new cocktail recipe to alcoholics anonymous! To add to the new verse written for me, "some fans are cooler than others."
