Stella and Morrissey to become sole partnersVegetarian fashion designer Stella McCartney is set to team up with former Smiths frontman Morrissey on a leather-free footwear range.

It follows plans by Sir Paul McCartney’s 38-year-old daughter to collaborate with fellow veggie Leona Lewis on a line of clothing.

‘I’m working with Morrissey on a line of leather-free shoes which I’m really excited about,’ Stella, right, said while switching on the Christmas lights at her Mayfair store. ‘We are still in the early stages but the shoes could be launched next year.’

  • Yet he continues to wear leather shoes.

This reminds of his reply when asked if he has ever allowed the use of his music in TV commercials: "Not really."

  • I really can't be think that the shoes he's wearing himself (and lovely they are, by the way) are anything but handmade italian leather. We've all seen them. Hypocrite...
But as he said himself once:
"I find it very hard to be political about shoes".

  • I think this is great because it's very difficult to find non-leather shoes that last and look good. Stella McCartney is a wonderful designer and with Morrissey's help, I'm sure these shoes will be lovely. I have a few non-leather shoes, but I really don't like them. I usually wear converse, but there are times when I need a good looking shoe, and sadly, those shoes are leather.

So, I'm really excited to hear this!

And, to those complaining that Morrissey wears leather shoes, all the better reason to partner with McCartney to solve the problem. Right?

i wish Moz/Stella well in their venture but I've been wearing shoes from the Brighton-based Vegetarian Shoes for over 10 years. They have a big range of mens and womens shoes. I don't wear formal-type shoes every day but for occasions when I need them I have a pair of black faux-leather shoes which I think look great and are excellent value:

I wish Stella all the very best but am afraid Stella one cannot agree with you when you say you are 'working class'.

You didn't go hungry (or cold) for arts materials when studying for your degree, am grateful for that.

  • I'm on my last pair of vegan Docs, and the other vegan alternatives out there are either hideous hippie sandals, cheaply made Doc Martin wannabes, shoes that look like root vegetables, clogs or sneakers.

There's one Australian company called "Vegan Wares" that makes beautiful, classic women's shoes, but other than that it's a wasteland.

So here's to Moz and Stella - give us something stylish, flamboyant, sexy and comfortable. Something a bit retro but with an interesting heel.

I can't wait to see what they come up with.

  • I saw Morrissey open up for Paul the Beatle at Coachella in 2009. It was a shortened set because it was a festival and at that time no plans for a tour in Moz Angeles had been announced. Of course "sir" paul went long and played crappy new shit that made me wish he actually was back in the USSR. 2 days later Robert Smith headlined. WTF! I dunno if it was Morrissey idea to play before Paul but if it was I wish he hadnt. McCartneys should make shoes not music.

  • Terrific. I think that's brilliant news.
I had thought that Morrissey still wore animal derived footwear and thought less of him for this.
This will at least send a message to folk that you can get non-animal alternatives.
Maybe Dr Martins will bring back their veggie docs when they see the vast market for them (lord knows my veggie docs are 20 years old and look every day of it!)

Lets hope they spare the hefty price tag that's associated with the Stella shoes though, and hope they do a nice range for boys (as well as non-girly girls).
For girly-girls Melissa do a nice range of vegan shoes that smell of strawberries. Yum!
