She & Him Cover The Smiths' "Please, Please, Please Let Me Get What I Want" - Stereogum

The Stereogum music blog unveiled the soundtrack to the upcoming Zooey Deschanel movie '500 Days of Summer' today. It features fan favorites 'There is a Light That Never Goes Out' and 'Please, Please, Please Let Me Get What I Want' (the latter is listed twice: the Smiths' original and a cover by She & Him, a partnership of Deschanel and M Ward.) Stereogum has posted a flash player for the cover song for your perusal.

He told the story of when he got into a discussion on music with a much younger actress and quizzed her to name any songwriter/artist from 1979 to present that will be remembered in 100 years. His answer was no one. Well he said he "gave" her REM and U2! After that there was no one! What a joke. I was so mad I changed the channel so I don't even know what Bill Mahers response was...

zooey's boring. that cover would be alright if somebody else was singing. and the fact that she wrote a song for and appeared in a cotton commercial makes me think even less of her.
