It says, I translate :

MORRISSEY
TOUR OF REFUSAL 2009 (FRANCE)

Morrissey has to cancel his gigs in Paris (June 2 Grand Rex) and Lille (June3 Aéronef).

Morrissey is on doctor’s orders not to sing, to ensure a complete recuperation.

The Paris and Lille gigs are posponed and rescheduled for November.

Original tickets for the rescheduled dates remain valid.

If this is not the sole or main reason for the cancellations, then I hope he feels better soon about whatever has been causing him to cancel and is able to sort it. Either way, get well.

  • I'm sorry the concerts have been cancelled including my only gig of the tour and commiserate with other ticketholders.

However, I think it's best for Morrissey to take plenty of time to recover completely, rather than struggle on risking further damage.

I'm sure this is hard for Morrissey, the band, the support band and all associated employees too. Not many of us have the pleasure of making a living from what we enjoy doing, but we all know what it feels like when illness or threat of unemployment strikes.

Top this with a mediocre album and uninspired samey setlist...what you have is a career disaster.

I doubt we'll ever see another tour like 2004 & 2006. Let alone tours before his 7 years of absence.

I feel sorry for everyone; Morrissey, his band, his crew, his management, fans.

I'm assuming you've been correctly going nasal to sing high? In any case, no karaoke to the Beach Boys for now (sitting back and enjoying is allowed ;). I'm enjoying Kate Nash and Stevie Nicks at the moment myself and not agitating my bronchitis!). According to Ms. Melissa Cross (above), no whispering, either.

So pen and paper for a week more, it sounds like. Maybe string along your funny notes into a song? This injury ironically necessitates writing.

Perhaps future tours should be one day on, one day off, and so on?

Good foods to nourish the throat (?): oatmeal, aloe juice, okra, peppers. Keep it free of infection, of course. Step away from cigarette smoke, of course.

Face it, even the most blind fanatic has to admit that this was a lacklustre tour with an uninspired setlist following a third rate album with 1 or 2 good songs on it, and now it all has ended without even a whimper of communication with the people that pay his hotel bills. Maybe he should eat more spinach, popeye the sailor!

  • If Morrissey has been ordered by his doctors not to sing, it means the problem is more serious than just a sore throat! Some people would be happy if Morrissey would just play the gig(s) they paid for even if he's not at 100%. Okay, say he goes ahead just so you get your money's worth, THEN ends up damaging his voice. Do you know what this means? It doesn't mean "sore throat"!

When a singer damages his voice, it means that he will lose some of his range, in some cases entire octaves. Whatever is left will not sound the same either; it will be weaker, airy, and hoarse. That means that he will NEVER be able to sing your favorite Smith's and Morrissey songs ever again! Is that what you want? As long as you get your fucking money's worth, right?
    Anonymous -- Friday May 29 2009, @01:17AM (#332966)
  • People are moaning about more than just the disruption and cancellation of the tour, they are also moaning about Morrissey 2009 full stop.

Many are disappointed with the quality of the recorded material and the fact that they can almost predict what each album will sound like these days, with many calling for a new direction.

Taking all this into account as well as his supposedly suspect vocal chords, could this be the right time for a new direction? A direction that relies less on his voice?

The answer could be something totally new and based on the classic sound of Kraftwerk. can you imagine some of Morrissey's songs re-worked into the new sound?

I think I am genuinely on to something here, although it may be a bit brave for many.

Lets go electronic Morrissey it could open up a whole new world.
