Hey,

Not really Morrissey-related, but interesting nonetheless. Johnny Marr has been taking part in a charity event for Oxfam called 7 Worlds Collide II - for those who know what the original was, it's the same idea as last time but with different band members and they're recording an album for charity this time as well as the live shows.

Johnny has been a big part of the event so far, bringing in his own NEW songs, as well as playing some older one's at the live shows - including Down On the Corner, There Is A Light That Never Goes Out(with Neil Finn) and the most interesting, a rendition of Please, Please, Please, Let Me Get What I Want

From what I can gather, Johnny's new songs have the titles 'Too Blue' and 'You Never Know'.

Here are a selection of the Johnny-related clips:

Please, Please...
There Is A Light...
One of Johnny's compositions, titled "You Get Through"

  • Fantastic show (Score:3, Informative)

I was at the Wednesday night show at Auckland's Powerstation. It was a brilliant, brilliant show, but seeing Johhny Marr up so close was a real treat. Although the show was (obviously) Neil Finn's thing, Johnny had a massive contribution, playing guitar on a large proportion of the songs. The version of "Please ..." on YouTube also features Don McGlashan (ex-Mutton Birds) on mandolin. The performance was breathtaking. Johnny also played "There Is A Light ..." with Neil Finn on vocals, "Down On The Corner" from "Boomslang", and a new song featuring lyrics from Jeff Tweedy (Wilco).

I know "supergroup" is basically a dirty word in this day and age but, seriously, Neil Finn, Johnny Marr, all of Wilco, half of Radiohead and a bunch of other stellar musicians. How much better could it get? A brilliant night.

  • for this news to be on morrissey-solo. Why not, it does have something to do with Morrissey, he wrote the lyrics for those songs. Johnny wrote the music.....its all related.
