3(? - I think) shirts thrown plus his jacket at the beginning, he was very happy, looked and sounded fantastic, nothing else I can say right now honestly other than fucking awesome! Oh, and the 2 new band members did a great job! Flawless! I can't believe I get to do this again tomorrow and Saturday!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I hated the song before tonight...you can't appreciate a line like "There are explosive kegs between my legs" until you see Moz sing it in person.

Anyone notice how he really wanted people to come up on stage with him but security was beating the hell out of everybody? It looked like the Moz's own security (the big bald guy in the back) guard was trying to help kids get up on stage. Anyways, here's a shameless plug for a Smiths themed film I'm shooting this weekend:

This week, we’re casting extras for our upcoming short film “This Night Has Opened My Eyes” and we’re looking for extras.

This is an American Film Institute film. Here’s a little info about the AFI:

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/AFI_Conservatory

If you’d just like to come and hang out as an extra when we shoot a club sequence at The Smell

(in Downtown LA on Sunday February 4th at 10 AM located at 247 S. Main St. (Cross Street Between Second Street and Third Street, entrance in the Alley) Parking should be easily available on Sunday morning. ...just come on down Sunday morning (you can write [email protected] or check out myspace.com/thisnighthasopenedmyeyes1 to confirm)

It’s not a paying gig but we’ll feed you, give you a copy of the completed film and we’ll be raffling Morrissey and Smiths prizes (T-shirts, records, etc.). We’ll have music and it’ll be a great place to meet Moz fans (if you weren't up early enough to get tickets for the show).

I was so stunned to see him and he did say that it was his first time in the states and he was there to visit a new found friend he told me and managed to attend this gig.
He was munching away at a sandwich and he was in great mood and very pleasant but struggling a bit from the jet lag but said that alcohol would cure that :-)
He told me that no-one had recognised him all night but he did get a few funny looks from a few people...

  • If you are planning on going to the show tonight and/or Saturday do not park in the main Paseo lot. That is just crazy! I kept seeing the same people driving around for 30 mins trying to find a spot. There is another structure up the road where I found a spot right away. $6 to park. Anyway...

    Some highlights:

Huge Morrissey banner/poster (boy happy picture) out front of the venue with all three dates crossed out and marked sold out.

So Morrissey came on and was all, "Don't cry for me Pasadena!!" and then straight into Panic. Twirl his jacket in the air and tossed it into the crowd.

During Let Me Kiss You, spot light right on Morrissey and he rips his shirt off. Good timing and seemed totally staged. Pretty sexy though.

National Front Disco: First stage invader. Person calmly kneels in front of Morrissey much like greeting the Pope. Morrissey rips his shirt off again during this song.

How Soon Is Now? I just have to say that Matt Walker is awesome on drums, especially during this song. He goes all crazy at the end but in a nice way.

I don't remember if it was during HSIN but there was another stage invader "attempt". The guy was on the larger side. Morrissey tried helping him up but almost pulled Morrissey into the pit. Well, the guy finally made it up but half of his pants didn't. His ass was basically there for everyone to see. Then the big bouncer guys rolled him off stage like a wheel of cheese.

I Just Want to See the Boy Happy - Boz plays a mean sax! Good job Boz.

Life is a Pigsty - Boz is the last one on stage and does some weird things with his guitar. When he's finished he slowly walks off the stage like a kid who has done something wrong but is all acting innocent. It was cute.

I thought the encore was okay. Overall it was a great show. The people were nice (not the usual riff raff). Maybe the higher prices weeded out some of the bad eggs.

  • From what I remember it had the Brigitte Bardot video for the song Bubble Gum, some home footage of David Johansen talking all crazy and about to smoke a joint, some Italian Star Search looking show competition, a video with some guy singing a song about twisting (what is his name? reminded me of Morrissey's stage pleather attire for some of the 1999 - 2000 shows) and test shots/outtakes with James Dean and Richard Davalos from East of Eden. There was more stuff too. Imagine past intro music but in video format.

Does anyone know the name of the intro song that was used right before they came on stage?

  • During last night's show, I must say I long for the days of the Your Arsenal gang. Looking up on stage there was definitely something missing. Oh, I'm sorry, make it 3 things: Alain , Gary and Spence. Alain is undoubtedly a key part to what Morrissey is today. His absence as part of the band, leaves me wondering if anyone can ever fill his shoes. I wander how Moz feels these days. Anyways, Alain, No One Can Hold A Candle To You...Lastly, Will Moz ever give credit to Johnny Panic? Daddy's Voice, the last song!??, very bold...

  • Wow, it was so far the best night of my life. It was my first show. The setlist was great. I was in the pit in the front so I had a great view. His voice was awesome even though you could tell he didn't like the way it sounded. At one point he smiled at me so I felt very delighted. He didn't shake my hand even though he was shaking a lot of people's hands. My brother got to shake his hand, darn him. The only thing that was weird were his eyes. The bottom of his eyes were red, but besides that he was as beautiful as always. I think he threw three of four shirts. His encores were the same. The gong in the back said, " Don't cry for me Pasadena" that was awesome. The pit wasn't rough except for two guys who were trying to push their way to the front, luckily they weren't able to. He mentioned Julia. There were to people who made it onstage, mostly because the stage was really low,
It was just an awesome night and I will remember it forever.

Sound was awesome and loud and got to hold onto my boyfriend without so much as a lurking stare or anti-homosexual slurs. Awesome! We stayed at the Westin and got to meet some fans who traveled from Italy and Scotland..we treated them out to a few drinks and dinner at the Yardhouse where there were quite a bit of Latino "Rebels" there. They were cool to shoot the shit with. The after party at Vive blew though. I really looked forward to hearing cool 80's tunes and some drinks but they didn't mention the 10 bucks a head cover charge and the bartenders were slow. I think only 40 some odd people outta 3,000 went:( But nonetheless, tremendously powerful experience. Love ya Moz!
