I'd be more concerned had I not heard Dear God and Far-Off Places which sound fantastic.

This is neither bad nor great, just pleasantly mediocre. Moz can pull out these in his sleep. Infact he probably did.

  • Are these lyrics correct? I've checked two sources.

    Pasolini is me,
    Agatoni you'll be,
I entered nothing and nothing entered me,
'till you came with the key,
and you did your best but

    As I live and breathe,
    You have killed me,
    You have killed me,
    Yes I walk around somehow,
    But you have killed me,
    You have killed me

    Piazza cavour?
    What's my life for?

    Visconti is me, Magnani,
    You'll never be.

I like the song. I think it's catchy enough for the radio.

I remember one music critic from Spin made the remark how he was frustrated that he had to look up who Oliver Cromwell was when he heard IBEH.

He should have a ball looking up the names with this one!

Second time through It ever so slightly grew on me so I would have given it a 4/10 at that point. Third time was the charm though. By this time the song really grew on my and I was able to picture how fun it would be to go on a drive with this song blasting on the stereo so now I would give it an 8/10. • Very suprised by IWSYIFOP, really deeply. That kind of oriental orientation seems very odd in a Mozz song. Indoubtly a new thing in Mozz's carreer, quite difficult to know if I will love it a day. Not sure.

Dear God : Mozz sings magically, the song is slow, a ballad. Not catchy at all. A good song, quite too romantic for me. Hope ROTT is not entirely like that. Not the Morrissey vein I prefer. But a beautiful song, indeed.

  • On the first hearing... was expecting more and I think this is only because I expect sooo much more from Morrissey than anyone else.

On the second time through though, it is growing on me, the lyrics aren't deep or meant to be particularly meaningful to us outsiders I don't think but the complexities of the arrangement and the sincerity in his voice won me over. It isn't a knock out single but I think there will be a lot better material on the album.

BTW, for anyone who was curious about Pasolini and Agatoni.

Pier Paolo Pasolini (March 5, 1922, Bologna-November 2, 1975, Ostia, Rome) was an Italian poet, intellectual, film director, and writer.

Pasolini distinguished himself as a philosopher, linguist, novelist, playwright, filmmaker, newspaper and magazine columnist, actor, painter, and political figure. He demonstrated a unique and extraordinary cultural versatility, in the process becoming a highly controversial figure.

Agatoni seems to be a fairly common Italian name? Correct me if I am wrong. Does this translate to Morrissey encountering a non-famous individual and having some kind of relationship?

Not sure - overall though - pleased.

It's not the Tysonesque sock on the jaw that 'Irish Blood...' was (musically, anyway), but lyrically, the candour is stunning (will the Mozzster come clean finally about his private life? I can't work the damned speakers on my pc so it's futile trying to listen to this song.

I did (sorry Morrissey) download the first leaked song and thought it was like listening to a Southpaw track with Kill Uncle production. I have to say that linking his two least-liked albums is not a good omen.

I'll no doubt like this album more than most other things that are released but I do hope Morrissey isn't singing along to any old balls that his backing musicians dared to give him. I'm really hoping that the new album is much better than I'm anticipating and the old boy is still capable of exercising some quality control over his charges.
