Colin Hay, formerly of Men At Work, has mentioned Morrissey in an Irish publication Hot Press. In a short Q&A with Colin the following question is posed:

Q: Last record you bought or blagged'.
A: Morrissey's You Are The Quarry. I think He's a laugh, I find the new album very funny among other things'.

I hope he means witty.

  • I'm sure he did. Colin's music has been sounding like it is going in the same direction of Moz's lately. I recently heard a song called "I Just Don't Think I'll Ever Get Over You" and it was absolutely brilliant.

  • I saw him do a small set a few weeks ago in NYC (at the Canal Room). The set was great, but really should only be called a half-set. He joked the other half of the night. Sadly, almost EVERY one of his stories (and they were long ones) was about how he USED to be someone and how he USED to have top-ten hits and how everyone only cares about the Men At Work stuff. To cap it off, his terribly strange wife sings backup doing horrible things like play air guitar to Colin's solos and "act out" the songs with face and hand jestures (even pretending to swim, standing on one leg during a song where he sings "I love swimming in the sea").

It was being filmed, so those of you interested can probably see all this on DVD soon.

  • When M-A-W were on the way out the door, they had one last very minor hit called "Maria". It grabbed me because it was very beautiful, and that actually caused me to track it down. Not very typical of M-A-W.
