moz: oh, of course, a tour will definitely be in order. i've never performed in the basque country, and i would really like to reach out to that segment of my audience that has really pulled through during the lean years...and as you know, there have been many...

Yes, I guess that this new compilation can only be explained as a way to introduce Moz to new listeners, and it might even be the case that distribution of the old albums was to become difficult because of Mercury - but this I know nothing about, it is just something that crossed my mind. I know that his original albums are not too easy to be found here any longer, but I guess that can be explained for other reasons too.
Of course, he does not owe me anything. If that's it, and just it, it is still ok, though I have to admit that I feel somewhat uncomfortable about it.

3 things to ponder:
1. Michael Jackson's last album went 6X platinum and he is just this month releasing an album after 6 YEARS!!! (I could have picked a better subject but you get the point.) SoundScan has projected it will hit 10X platinum status. During this downtime Jackson took a heavy beating in the US press as Moz did in the UK press. What he did do during those 6 years is release compilation CDs and DVDs.
2. Isn't it nice to see the Mozzer release one under HIS OWN terms? ...and on a great label to boot! (Has anyone listened to Rhino's Bowie at the Beeb release? It's flawless.) Rhino is so cool they even released a Jobriath CD!
3. I know it's Son and Heir so no flaming e-mails :)

First off, Morrissey has already made more amazing records and given more kick ass performances than dozens of other artists combined. As far as I'm concerned, that man now deserves to do as he damn well pleases.
Second, record companies re-issue stuff REGARDLESS of what the artists want. If you think the situation with Moz is outta hand, you'd all be having grand mal seizures if you were fans of The Fall. Go take a look at their discography; for every Moz compilation there are at least four Fall comps.
As for all the talk about the future and new material -- I don't know what's going to happen, and neither does anyone else.

If the next one turns out to be another malujusted, I dont expect much turn around in his career. Whatever the case may be...I will always be one of the last of. I will carry a song inside me wherever I go, and I won't forget the ones that saved my life. So it will be ok for me in the end. As for the Legend Of MORRISSEY, well, who knows, probably won't matter til he's dead. That will grab all those with albums out now, who were inspired by him...it will get there attention...and in death, they will again remember.
In the end: Elvis, The Beatles, Jimi Hendrix, The Doors, Nirvana, Madonna, The Cure, Metallica, Bjork, Paul McCartney, John Lennon,The Smiths, and Morrrisey will be amoung the greatest, and unapreciated.

IMO, Morrissey he has already offered as much as he could possibly offer in the form of The Smiths and his early solo years. I don't understand the sentiment of many Morrissey fans that Morrissey has given up on them. I guess this mentality is more readily found in the younger, or newer Morrissey fans. The point is, Morrissey was from the 80's. That was his "time." The fact that he had such a successful solo career way past his Smiths years is remarkable. All bands, no matter how great they once were, *will* creatively decline if they continue to make music for a long time. Most of what bands have to say is during the crucial 2-4 years of their existence. Then either they have to change their image, express new things, or go on a creative decline. For Morrissey it's not as simple as changing his image. He has to change what he expresses. And he has attempted this in several of his latest albums, but it is apparent to me that the best things he had to say were during his years in The Smiths and early solo years. (with few exceptions) Of course this is not to say that his next album will not be a great album, but we should be thankful for any album at all. Most bands from the 80's, even popular ones, have not made any more albums since the 80's, or have made far fewer than Morrissey has.
To my knowledge, he *has* stated his interest in making a future album. So what is all this whining about? I used to think Morrissey fans were intelligent, feeling people. I guess it's just the people on this messageboard.
