In the Summer 2001 issue of Q, Boy George is asked the following question.
Did you get on with Morrissey in the '80s? Any gossip?
I had tea with Morrissey in about '85 in a Paris hotel. The boss of my label knew that I was a big Smiths fan and arranged it. He was very unfriendly and made me feel like a total cunt. He didn't speak during the whole meeting, which sent me into overdrive, totally over-compensating. But about a month ago I got a message from him on the ansaphone saying, Can you call me? But I couldn't hear the last two digits of the number. I was going to LA the next day and wanted to call him, but nobody in America seems to know his number. I think he's a genius. I've always bought his music even though he was nasty to me.

  • funnily enough it was Morrissey who made me read Boy George's autobiography. He once mentioned reading it without being able to put it down again and he was quite right in his judgement... :-)

  • If he could not understand only the last two numbers he could have tried to guess, I think it would be just 100 trials at the maximum (10^2 am I right?) what's not so bad.

  • I'm sure he muffled the last two digits just to screw with little Boy's head. He probably knew it would drive him to ponder suicide.

  • Oh Moz, that last theory that he muffled the last 2 digits is a possibility. But I still don't get why Moz acted like he did towards Georgie Boy, they're both pretty strange. Yet I can see them walking down the strip in West Hollywood together and getting loads of fans to take pictures with them, and sign stuff. Funny how life is in W. Hollywood.

  • Shyness isn`t so nice sometimes.I know this very well from experience.Shyness can sometimes be mistaken as unfriendliness.People mistakingly believe that your being snotty or rude when that`s not the case at all. That`s happened to me when someone comes up to talk to you and it terrifies you because your mind goes blank and you can`t think of a word to say so others mistakingly believe that your disinterested.Oh and I also read that interview where Morrissey said he couldn`t put down Boy George`s biography. He also said that Boy was a good storyteller. So Boy I don`t think it was anything personal.-Tibby

  • George dear,
Just post the numbers that you DO have and we'll take it it turns to add the extra two digits, and before you know it we'll have that number for you! Telephone roulette anyone?

Which reminds me of a lovely story I heard on 'Home Truths' about a bloke who had fun when he came home from the pub and just called any old random number in Australia. He chatted to lots of lovely people that way and even made life-long pals with one lady. Now what's the STD code for LA?

  • All i can say is Morrissey, everything u said in 1983, was it just a pack of lies, a publicity stunt expressing your love for Marr. I cannot accept that the strong relationship between them both over 5 years just fails to exist. As you said, as u feel as a teenager never changes, so ur feelings for Johnny cannot have changed. Or Mike or Andy for that matter, being the 'capable musicians' they are. Make it special again Stephen, u know what i mean...

  • That Boy George fellow frightens me sometimes. How could anyone, if they were EVER fortunate enough to receive a message from Morrissey...miss the last two digits? Why wouldn't he just try all digit combinations...it would be simpler than trying to get it through someone else. I am very curious, anyhow...if this message was really left for him...or if it was really our man Morrissey. It seems odd to me, IRL, okay...thanks.

  • To be honest, I have to report that Boy George
is quite funny these days - now that he has stopped crooning on stage ! I wanted to tell you that he has been on quite a few UK TV shows over here in the past 5 months on a pretty regular basis.

He really has his head together now. For years, I think (and have read) that he was going towards self-destruction. Blame it on the success of fame, but he was in a bad way for some time. In the end, he turned the corner.

Recently has been quite polite on TV. I think his religion has helped him - he has some strange views but each to his own and he has stuck to it for a few years now - but he can be funny, laughing and making jokes generally being a nice soul. There is/was a Culture Club Reunion Tour being rumoured.

  • I think it was a prank...no, I'm just kidding. I like Boy, too. He has had such hard times, but he pulled through, and I'm really happy for him. I saw him do "Story Tellers" on VH1 a while back, and of course they did his biography as well. He really has a great sense of humor and I feel he is a very strong person.

I hope he can find Morrissey!

  • I remember some time ago doing a people search on Yahoo. Some how I came up with Mozz's phone# or the very least an address. I never did anything with the info, in fact I felt guilty for prying. If Boy George had most of the digits he can verify the last two.
