Noel Gallagher Talks Liam, Twitter Feuds, Channeling Elvis, and Stagefright in Solo Interview - Yahoo! Music Maximum Performance blog

Excerpt:

Noel confirmed to Yahoo! that he and his inner Elvis will be playing a few classic Oasis tunes when he tours this fall. "I don't really consider them anymore to be Oasis songs. They're my songs, I wrote them," he explained. "It's not like I'm Morrissey and I'm taking half of what Johnny Marr done and kind of running away with it, or vice versa. Arctic Monkeys reveal The Smiths as a key influence on 'Suck It And See' - NME.com

Excerpt:

Arctic Monkeys' Alex Turner has revealed that there is a strong influence from The Smiths on the band's latest album 'Suck It And See'.

Speaking to BBC 6Music, Turner said that though he wasn't consciously attempting to channel The Smiths while writing 'Suck It And See', he didn't mind if people compared his band's new record to the Manchester legends.

He said: "I love The Smiths. I don't know if I was listening to a great deal of it while I was writing this last record but I don't mind that coming through in our songs at all. The other influence we have from Manchester, I suppose, is John Cooper- Clarke and whilst I think his influence is really prevalent in that first record it also still hangs around in some of the couplets on this new Monkeys album as well."

Johnny Marr to Guest on "Portlandia" - Pitchfork

Ex-Smiths guitarist Johnny Marr will make an appearance on the next season of "Portlandia", Vulture reports. According to Fred Armisen, the "Saturday Night Live" cast member who created the IFC comedy show with Carrie Brownstein, Marr will play a non-musical role that is a combination of his own identity and that of another character. "It's a question mark," Armisen said. "It's very much you get to decide who he is."
