Spokane, WA (Feb. 1, 2000)

Post-show comments and final thoughts

Morning after the first show of the '00 tour; my ears are still ringing and I'm tired as hell, but I thought I'd share some final thoughts.

As mentioned previously, there is a very nice review with a few photos (look to have been taken from the balcony) and a picture of the setlist at the MorrisseyTour.com website. To that I'd just like to add that the Met Theater in Spokane proved to be a wonderful venue for Morrissey. It is relatively small and provided an intimate atmosphere. Our seats were in the dead last row on the main floor, but were still fairly close to the stage (there are only 13 rows of seats) and we had a perfect view of the proceedings.

A couple of things I noted: as the first song began, a small bunch of flowers were flung onto the stage. Later during "Boy Racer" a banana was thrown up. And, he offered up no less than three shirts to the audience. Two different individuals were able to make the stage. The first guy during "I Can Have Both" (if I remember correctly) gave a brief embrace before being escorted off stage and reappearing at his seat a few minutes later. During the encore, a young lady made her way up and held onto Morrissey briefly before leaving what appeared to be a padded envelope with the singer. Shortly thereafter he bid adieu and left the band to finish up "Last Night I Dreamt...".

A couple of comments made during the show (in addition to those mentioned on the MorrisseyTour review). Shortly into the set, he said "I can't believe you're here...I can't believe *I'm* here". Not sure what that meant, possibly a reference to the fact that Spokane was a rather obscure stop for the tour and that the venue was near capacity. Later he remarked, "I would have come here sooner if you would have invited me." There was more -- as mentioned, he seemed a bit chatty -- but it's starting to become a bit of a blur in my head at this point.

Well, that's all I've got to say. It's been fun updating all who are interested in the events of the first date of the '00 tour, but now it's time to pass the torch. Highlights for me were "Shoplifters...", "Half a Person", and "Reader Meets Author". This was my first (and most likely last) time seeing Morrissey perform live, and it was quite a thrill. I'm especially jealous of all of you who still have a show (or shows) to look forward to.

Onto Portland!
