Meeting Moz

Hartlepool Borough Hall - seeing is believing. This must qualify as the most Morrissey of venues ever! The venue was not actually in Hartlepool but at Headland, Old Hartlepool. Remember the photo of the Salford Lads Club? Well this was the north east version of that. A ramshackle building that was wonderfully decayed by time - this was MorrisseyÕs homeland. Myself along with four others (Ann, Izzy, Nicola and a german guy - sorry I never quite caught your name) had the pleasure and the privilege of meeting Moz before the gig. He seemed very relaxed and much more amiable than I imagined (I had never met him before) and he seemed quite happy to sign numerous autographs for us and even posed for a few photos. In the venue itself there were a lot of posters on the wall adverting their next big gig - a brass band competition!. Having seen the opening night at Nottingham I had a good idea of the set list so there were no surprises here. I did think he may have played ÔEveryday Is Like SundayÕ as a homage to Hartlepool but alas no. As the hall emptied spilling an army of MorrisseyÕs fans into the cold night air we were faced with the usual gang of street traders selling those dodgy t-shirts for £3. WerenÕt they £5 in Nottingham???
