Well, Moz seems to have taken the recent criticism of the lack of variety in his setlist to heart, but this is ridiculous. Basically, the entire setlist was just 'King Leer' played over and over again. Even the encore. And he didn't speak to the audience once... I hope this doesn't happen again at any point of the tour. However, the venue did refund all money to those complaining - and that was just about everybody! Very strange...

Are you serious? He must have said something! Someone must have yelled and asked him to play something else! Come on more info, more details! Did he differ in his singing of Leer at all?

Can everyone please stop replying to the above set list post as if it was serious?
I thought Morrissey fans were supposed to be intelligent! And is humor beyond you?

the show was amazing. i dont know what all this stuff about King Leer is, but it's rubbish.

moz got on right on time and he sounded great throuhgout. he was very animated with the audience. when he first got on he quipped: "denver! back in the land of king soopers! *Jesus* they're the best!!"

the audience was quite receptive, and when (during Sister...) when a woman tried to get onstage, Moz stopped the song when security wouldn't let her on and looked to the security and said "she's not gonna hurt you. be gentle. she's not gonna hurt you" went over to her, shook her hand and kissed it while saying "thank you. thank you."

before playing "i like you" he said: "i just want to thank all of you for putting up with and staying with me through years of absolute *shit* from the media (etc etc etc)...and for that - i like you".

I'd just like to say that after years of lurking here I had never been inspired to post anything until I saw him in such fine form - in my own backyard. I'm sure that others will agree the energy at this show was unbelievable, especially during songs like speedway and sister, i'm a poet. Security was a bit rough on a gate-jumper so he stopped 'sister', and told security "she won't harm you"he then restarted the song once the fan was out of meathead reach. Of course this gesture was met with a deafening cheer from the crowd. Some of my favorite quips:
"It's good to be back in the land of King Soopers - Jesus, that place is the best." (Our strange sounding grocery store chain here)
As he did in colorado springs he made fun of the people in front sort-of football-chanting his name saying, "What a beautiful sound (snicker)."
Before meat he said, "Steven Sondheim would shit to write lyrics like these. . ."
There was a comment or two that I can't remember verbatim about how grateful he is that we've stuck with him/"you know the media hasn't been kind. . ."/the buisness, etc. Maybe someone else can remember exactly what he said. Before the encore he thanked us again and said something like, "May Jesus or whatever your supposed to say bless you, Thank You." I hope this was informative to someone. I'd like to say hi to the guy behind me who kept asking people what the gong was for. You rule.

Moz also was very generous in the way of handshaking with the people on the far right and far left of the front of hte stage. However, for those of us (like me) who were front and center, he spent the night teasing us - leading us on thinking he'd shake our hands, but never did. Oh well, it was fun and the concert only strengthened my love for this man.

I was just wondering can anyone tell me what time the show ended?? I had to rush out of the venue very early to attend to an emergency. I want to know how much more I missed.

I am going to see morrissey for the 1st time (im 17) and i am disheartened by the bad reviews! Is he really crap live cos if he is i dont wanna go!!!!!!!!! i dont want to be disappointed by my God!!!!!!! It would totally shatter me! So you ppl need to help me decide-should i go or not?

It’s been 5 years almost to the day since I last say Him. The “Maladjusted” tour rolled into Montreal, the 2nd date on the World tour following Toronto. The sound was, well a little too loud and He was quite aloof. He muttered a quick “Thank You Montreal” and that was the extent of his interaction.
Fast-forward to August 30th, 2002…….My attempts at planning a business trip to Denver which would coincide with the show bears fruit. In an age of instant information, I (like all other fans) knew what to expect with respect to the set-list. Echoing some of the other fans’ sentiments, I also wondered “why the flashback to Viva Hate?”. Stand in line to enter the venue (The Fillmore), see people, and start to realize just how many He has touched. From 16 year-olds just getting their first taste, to the 30-somethings (Me!) who were first touched in the ‘80s, to the 40/50-somethings who were avant-garde in their choice of music.

King Cheetah impresses….for a neo-punk trio. The Energy is there….the bassist is spectacular, the drummer is awesome, the singer/guitarist is great, but this goes to show that Bass/Drums is far more important than melodic instruments in a live rock show.

The lights dim…..guess who pops on stage?. Him: looking more like a singer fronting a swing-era big band. The players are older…..and better. Boz looking like a musical patriarch sports a grey-mane of hair, a beard and glasses. Good for him!! A dedicated musician, husband and father with no qualms about who he is. Alain looks the same, but 5 pounds heavier…….he looks better filled-out doesn’t he…Gary, ageless Gary. Playing with a bit of sorrow perhaps. Smile Gary, you’re very much appreciated. And the freshman Dean….clean cut, the kinda guy a pretty debutant would bring home to introduce to Mum & Dad. For the first time in a long time, it looked like the Morrissey Band. I wonder if Gary, Alain & Boz qualify for 6 weeks of annual vacation for their years of service?

The sound was incredible. The songs sounded better than on the records. Boz playing the banjo on “Every Day is like Sunday” was breathtaking. The biggest surprise of the evening was Morrissey himself. “Thanks for sticking around through all the years, even though the media pretty much dismissed me…..Thank You”. Between every song, some form of heart-felt interaction. Suddenly, he wasn’t “Morrissey the Mysterious”, but Uncle Moz, Mr. Salt-of-the-Earth, a guy you could just hang-out with. To me, that was the defining characteristic of the evening. I witnessed the rebirth of a man who constantly tried to reinvent himself to a legion of faithful fans who wanted one thing: for Morrissey to be himself. The number of “God Bless You”s , “may Jesus bless you” uttered by Morrissey made me think, was Billy Graham backstage? Constant concern for His fans safety made him stop “Sister, I’m a Port” midway as he addressed the security guards………”Don’t worry, she (a fan) won’t hurt you”. Then, “There is a Light that never goes out”. In my opinion, the best song ever written. I wipe tears from my eyes, inch my way towards the exit and watch the band perform from the door (I had to catch a plane in the morning, so..). And that was it. The immense impact of what I had just witnessed slowly dawned on me on the plane, which is where I’m at now…seat 2A, flying back to Montreal. I’m just another guy who found inspiration from an unlikely motivational speaker. Which reminds me, when will I start singing my life?

why does mozza keep saying "god bless you" and "jesus bless you" i didnt think he was religous? is this a well known fact that escaped me somehow?!

I remember going to his Philadelphia show in September 1997. As people were entering the venue, I remember hearing this unusual but beautiful piano music. It was repetitive, mysterious, and somewhat atonal. (These are not derogatory terms.) This, I believe, was even before the opening act took the stage--in other words, in the very beginning. Does anyone else remember anything like this, and, if so, what the title/composer of the piece is?

The Denver show was definitely an improvement from the Colorado Springs show. Another absolutely brilliant performance! The sound was better and the crowd was bigger and far more energized. Morrissey was even more responsive to the crowd. Communicated with his assistant/publicist, Blossom, via e-mail who relayed to me that Morrissey was also pleased with the Denver show saying that the sound on stage was MUCH better. Had a photo pass to the Colorado Springs show and will post pics as soon as I get them back (probably Tuesday). Cheers!

Anybody have their DAT tape or MD recorder rolling for the concert?

Knowing that sometimes you'd be surprised what you can get just by asking, I troubled the soundboard fellows, inquiring about recordings of the show. They replied with restrained refusal.

So, does anybody out there have this show all ready for digital trading of any sort? I really wish I'd slipped my sister's Minidisc recorder in the back of my pants and recorded the show. The frisk at the Filmore was superficial and a device could easily have been spirited inside.

I went to both the Denver show and Colo.Sprgns show's. On a personal note the colo. sprgns. show was better because it was my first show, and we were front and center for the whole thing. The crowd was definatley not as into it as they should have been, but aside from that and that the venue was a "rat hole", moz still put on a wonderful show. Denver on the other hand was an emotional one, especially when he stopped in the middle of sister i'm a poet to talk to the security guards(who by the way were nazi's about everything). When he stopped the show like that, you could really see how much he cares his fans, he is a truly loving and compassionate person. Just seeing Moz on stage singing those songs i have heard a million times, was priceless. Being at these two shows were truly one of the best experiences of my life, words can hardly describe it.

Morrissey was amazing! This was my first time seeing him and I hope to see him again soon. Me, my boyfriend and a couple of friends drove to Denver from Cincinnati to see him. Even though we had to drive across Kansas, which took forever, Morrissey was worth every second of our drive. I was upset that we got lost and was not able to see the first band or get up front, but at least we got there in time for Moz!

I must say Denver is a really great city with great record stores and really friendly people. I hope to visit again and stay for longer.

why have i not yet seen a comment about his rolling around on the stage? i cant remember what song that was to, but he just laid down with his head towards the audience and rolled, twisted, squirmed, and did some pelvic thrusts. Incredible. It just cemented the constant screams behind me of "sexy motherfucker!"

Gracias por tu show aqui en Denver. I want to thank you for performing such a beautiful show here in Denver last week. I want to tell you that your show was the last plans my fiancee and I had made before her recent death in July. Her name was Abril, she was 25, and she adored you and your music. She had never been to a show of yours, but I know and I felt her there at the Fillmore. I knew it was going to be a wonderful show when you came out and said the "denver! back in the land of king soopers! *Jesus* they're the best!!" Ironically as I stood there with her cousin and her brother we were in shock and aww. She had worked as a deli clerk at King Soopers for two years before her passing. Gracias por todo, hicista la noche hermosa, y nos llenaste el corazón. Again thank, you made it a beautiful night for us, and you filled our hearts. Thank you for your beautiful song about México, Abril was born in DF, and our family is from there. Your a beautiful person.
