Where does Morrissey´s fascination in Steve McQueen stem from? He had a t-shirt with Steve on it in some photograph and a picture hanging on the wall of his Los Angeles home. Has he ever mentioned him in interviews? I just can't figure out the connection.

Ummmm, because Steve McQueen is beautiful and The Great Escape is one of the best movies of all time?

Steve Beatiful? Perhaps. Best movie of all time? Hardly.

Did he lead a turbulent/sad/sorrowful life which makes Morrissey symphathize and relate with him?

Apparently his muscles weren't so effortless. He worked out at one point two hours a day, seven days a week. And ran 5 miles. And he was a REAL thug. I like him. He was a janitor at the brothel at one point too, can you imagine? And he was a stoner Republican. He was all over the map of personality, very intriguing.
