In case anyone hasn't seen this, apparently Morrissey's publicist shot down this rumour in a comment to HitFix (whatever that is):

'The Smiths will never get back together,' says rep, despite new rumors - HitFix
GLASTONBURY 2013 WILL GO ON WITHOUT THEM
By Melinda Newman MONDAY, OCT 1, 2012 6:31 PM

As rumors of a Smiths’ reunion light up the the internet again today, we reached out to former lead singer Morrissey’s publicist, who shut down the possibility of the British band reuniting at Glastonbury... or anywhere else.

“The Smiths will NEVER get back together,” Morrissey's rep replied to our email request for a response to the flurry of rumors running rampant. That mean, of course, that this round of speculation would seem to be like the 1,289 ones before it: totally false. The uppercase is from the publicist, not us. She sounds suspiciously like she's quoting Taylor Swift's current single, doesn't she?

Ever since the band broke up 25 years ago, these rumors crop up periodically with varying degrees of support and varying amounts of zeros after the dollar sign (The going rate was apparently $75 million six years ago for a 40-date Morrissey/Johnny Marr outing). Despite Morrissey saying he would “rather eat my own testicles” than reform the band, the rumors still come back again like a bad penny every so often.

This time, ground zero seems to be a U.K. entertainment website called Holy Moly, which is reporting that it is hearing from more than two sources that “The Smiths will reform in 2013...It’s a done deal...Dates are booked...Glastonbury is one of four dates.” As you will recall, there have also been rumors that Coachella offered to turn the whole event vegetarian if that would lure non-meat-eater Morrissey to reunite with his former bandmates. But there is apparently not enough tofurkey in the world to get this crew on stage together again.

As badly as The Smith fans want to see Morrissey reunite with Marr, Andy Rourke and Mike Joyce, it looks like, to paraphrase one of their album titles, “The Smiths Are Dead” ... and remain so.

Good grief...Both Morrissey and Marr have said this countless times. What will it take for people to believe it?? Too many differences and too much history.

But... but Holy Moly is usually so reliable!

Not unhappy to hear this official (?) denial - I just don't see what's to be gained for either Moz or Marr ( well, apart from the cash, of course) in reuniting. I'd argue not reuniting is what helps keep the Smiths so special ...

If Joyce Did Not Sue The Smiths, We Would Have A Reunion

But he did sue. Therefore, Joyce murdered The Smiths.

      Discuss.

There may be a hint of truth to this rumor regardless of Morrisseys Publicist. Morrissey is good friends with the British DJ Janice long. I have seen Stuart Maconie at Morrissey concerts together with Janice Long in the past. I am sure that Maconie would have contacted Janice Long before making such a bold statement on British radio. Then again, i am just a mere mortal, what do i know???

Come on, this is pathetic. The original rumour failed to name a single source, though it seemed them worthy of giving credibility status, and now we have this denial from " a rep". People seem to be allowing themselves to believe anything and everything.

When you know the work locations of 'certain people' it's not so hard to see how these false rumours gain momentum. Always have one thought at the back of your mind "who gains from this?"

      It's not hard.

Until Morrissey HIMSELF, or Marr HIMSELF, or Rourke HIMSELF, or Joyce HIMSELF say it, I equally call BS on this "publicist" of Mozzer. His "rep" is usually through the "True To You" website, so IF and WHEN that website addresses it in the same manner as this "publicist", then (and only then) will it be true that the story of any reunion, is just a fabrication.

And on last night's show Janice Long talked about The Smiths; she'd just received Tony Fletcher's new biography and said she couldn't wait to read it over the weekend. But happened to see one quote (indexing herself?) where Johnny talks about the inevitability of the split and mentioned that the day the split story appeared in 'NME' he listened to Janice Long's show that evening where she played 'Girlfriend In A Coma' for the first time and preceded it with the announcement that The Smiths had split. Even still, reading the excerpt, JL choked up a bit. Cos she's lovely. Said how she couldn't believe it has been 30 years since she played The Smiths, picking them as 'ones to watch' on her Youth Employment Service TV show for BBC NorthWest back in 1983 (it's on YouTube someplace)

Said NOWT about a rumour, a re-union, 'big news', hint, hint. Nothing. Goodnight and thank you.

So you're saying it's TRUE until or unless TTY denies it...? Get real.

On a side note, I think him and Rourke were done but they agreed to it, there's not a lot of point in agreeing to something and then bitching about it afterwards.

But yes, Joyce's actions meant the Smiths will never be resuscitated.

On the one hand it's great but on the other it will stop The Smiths ever going stratospheric like they always deserved to.

Quit being so damn gullible, and frankly, stupid. The Smiths, be it 2 members, 3 members, or all 4, are NOT reuniting -- for anything, anywhere, any time.

Did anyone really think this was true?? come on, guys! A Smiths reunion will never happen and I'm glad it doesn't, there is no need to ruin something that was perfect.

Johnny Marr should join Kristeen Young next and then he would already be in the car, and some night Baby Jeff could be the drummer and Kristeen Young could play the bass parts and they could trick Morrissey into making a new Smiths.
