An REM thread for r.e.m. stuff

Have you noticed the new mix for Radio Song on the album? Sounds very different from the original with the female back vocals added in. I think there are subtle differences to some of the other songs too, I'll have to compare more closely. I thought Endgame sounded a bit different too, but it could just be me.

About the new unreleased song: sounds similar to the 4 untitled Green instrumentals to me, as if it was a 5th one from the same sessions.

Tbh, I didn't notice anything different there, mega. Maybe it was always there, but with the new mastering it got clearer and more noticeable? Could be the case, I don't know.

I'll have to listen to a FLAC version to be sure, but so far the remastering, in MP3 form, sounds incredible! It seems to have been properly conducted, undistorted, unlike everything that has been done so far with the anniversary albums. I'm really glad to have been proven wrong in my pessimistic initial approach. But I'll wait for a better-quality rip than the one I've just heard.

Yeah, I knew I said that too soon. Whoever ripped the MP3 version was careful about the levels. But the remastered album is still heavily compressed. Check out the end of Texarkana (just one of many examples). f***ing brickwalled all the same.

Have to say that I'm very pleased with this set, even given that things may be "loud."

It's great that the band apparently really made an effort to include demos that hadn't been circulated previously. By my count, 11 of the 19 demos are presented here for the first time.

Also, I'm surprised by how much I'm enjoying the Mountain Stage show. I wasn't necessarily all that impressed by the tracks from the show that the band released as b-sides at the time and the Borderline recording has always been my "go-to" show from this era. However, hearing the entire Mountain Stage performance presented here I love the performances, particularly with the addition of the violin on Radio Song and harmonica on Pop Song 89. And I'm glad to see that, with the inclusion of Dallas, apparently the covers (and in-between song banter) that have always made R.E.M. shows so special are no longer off-limits for inclusion in the reissue campaign.

I hope that this sets the template for future anniversary releases.

- a brand new song! A legitimate one. Great news! I honestly have no idea if it became something else or was ever heard in any other form, but it sounds grunge-influenced to me, like something that could have been repurposed as a Monster b-side later on.
good point, about the Monster vibe. to me it sounds a bit like WTFK intro.

I was really hoping untitled demo 2 was mandolin strum vocal version or here I am again better quality than bootlegs. However a never heard instrumental outtake is also fun. Stipe never really gave us too many complete outtakes during green - automatic save the famous three. free world baby. fretless. photograph. Hoping automatic with deliver us a pure vocal outtake or demo.

But thats not the reason Im writting. Found a CD with a REM live track I have never heard of. It prob the version from Roadmovie but ...........

Finally, did anyone get a MP3 RIP of Wordl Leader Pretend from 30 Days Site?

Thanks You; fellow REMheads

I was thrilled when I found out that the untitled one was entirely new. here's a quote from Peter, from the latest Rolling Stone :"There were probably another 10 or 15 pieces of music that we could have included, but it's pointless to fill up the bonus stuff with just instrumentals of things that no one ever really hear" - as far as I'm concerned he couldn't be more wrong. it is indeed pretty cool to discover demos of beloved songs but I'm dying to hear some new(old) stuff, even if if they're just instrumentals.
all in all the OoT reissue is satisfying but for future reissues - I'm hoping that, on the 2nd disc, the focus will be on tunes we never heard before.

I would love to hear or have the instrumental songs. Was also hoping they included the Nightswim (not Nightswimming) demo in the Out of Time demo disc.
But next year will be amazing, Automatic turns 25, hopefully they release a lot of demos, and the complete show from 40 Watt Club from November 1992.

Hi

I hope some of you can help. you can rip an acapella from a song of you have a digital instrumental and vocal version and is quite like to try this with Bang and blame. I've ripped the audio from the cassette single but it hasnt quite worked and I'm told it has to be digital. The 2 track CD from back in the day is impossible to find so I wondered if anyone has a copy of it as wav?
Forget this post- I've ripped and compared them, all completely different takes and not the same take with the vocal removed
