Morrissey has took so much inspiration from the NYD over the years, I'm not sure what anyone else thinks, but I have a feeling that David Johansen has emulated Morrissey with the song "Drowning" from the new LP Cause I Sez So. It seems to me very similar to Mama Lay Softly on The Riverbed, as they both deal with similar themes lyrically, and has a very similar "Mama!" chorus.
Incidentally, I think it is a great song on what is a great LP, and is better than their last album.
