"How Soon Is Now?" does not offer a solution to a problem. It is about the problem itself, namely being shy and unable to find love and friendship with other people. It is an angry song that pits a basic human need, the need for love, with pointless social rituals and the insensitivity of those who believe there is a "right way" and a "wrong way" to do what ought to be the most natural thing in the world. There's no solution, but the anger in the song helps you grasp the crucial point that shyness itself is not a problem at all-- in fact the real problem lies elsewhere, outside of oneself. I'd call that a useful perspective.
Yes, and then at the end of the song Morrissey is there to wonder about how he knows and how he has endured well with such sensitivities; how he has managed to retain compassion without being patronising which in my experience is very rare indeed; and how he has looked society in the eye and called it - and still does.

I was fortunate enough to attend U2's first concert for the "Pop Mart Tour" in Vegas(still have the ticket stub to prove it, I was front row baby!!!) & that was by far one of the top 10 best concerts I've ever been to, and I've been to a number of shows from all kinds of bands(I'd say close to 100-mostly between the ages of 12-18-we had nothing to do in Michigan back then).

I've always enjoyed U2 as a band. I don't think Bono takes himself too serious & is always kinda self depracating IMHO. He gives an opinion, because, he and the band were in the scene back then, and to my knowledge, Morrissey and Bono have always remained friends since his days w/the Smiths? Didn't Morrissey, some years back, attend a U2 concert and was standing main floor for it? Plus, he's remained friends w/Stipe/Chrissy Hynde and Courtney Love(I think), for quite some time. I don't recall any of them saying anything bad about Morrissey, that's cool to me.

Elton John was involved in a marriage sham, so never say never.

i dont really see how it could be a bad thing, as some seem to be saying(or at least implying) in this thread
also, just because Bono became an annoying old self rightcheous hack does not mean U2 was not once awesome!
maybe they should have broke up like the Smiths did
U2 were good in the 80's.. I won't deny that.... my issue is with Bono being an annoying self-righteous hack/media whore like you describe....

Would a U2 breakup have resulted in Bono-Solo???
I don't think I even wanna think about that possibility

Bono gaywho didn't know Bono has been married to the same woman since he was a young man and has 4 children. Just because a guy wears make up doesn't make him gay. He can also be straight or somewhere in the middle.

I just googled "Bono drag" to make an image macro to mock you and Bono's incredible gayness, but it linked me to Bona Drag instead. I guess that counts for something.

To me, watching any type of interview on TV involving Bono is akin to self-flagellation . And no, Im not into that type of thing.

Just because a guy is married and has kids doesn't mean he's not gay

True. So does that mean we can also say that just because a man screws other men it doesn't rule out that secretly he wants a wife and kids? Or is it just straight people who are too thick to be sure of their sexuality?

I was referring to the assumptions people make on other people's sexuality, not to whatever people feel with themselves.

Since you brought it up though, being sure of your sexuality is well and nice, but my guess would be that it happens less often that straight people feel the need to hide their sexuality and live their lives as homosexuals than the other way around.

Oh no, who cares what someone like Bono thinks about Morrissey anyways. He's such an insincere hypocrite lunching with the pure evil ones george w bush and the pope, preaching about poverty but avoiding to pay taxes. I've always loathed him and his "opinions" because that's all he does, everywhere, everytime, even uninvitedly

Well it doesn't matter what we read, it doesn't make it true. I am one who really has to witness certain things to believe them. Fans, press whoever make up stories all the time about famous people nothing new. And that's really a bad thing to accuse someone of when you have no proof.

True but many people who are married truly are attracted to both sexes. I know a few people. They stay married and committed because they found the person they want to stay with but it doesn't stop them from looking.

The bisexual community does get crapped on alot. It doesn't have to be one way or the other, there can be that in between world. Michael Stipe taught me that. And I love people like him or Morrissey who do not actually label themselves. They are just sexual beings. Now the press call them gay all the time but neither have ever said, , "I'm gay".
