Thread: What are your favourite albums?

  1. #1

Default What are your favourite albums?

In this age of disposable music, where songs pass through the charts so quickly, i was wondering do people still listen to albums all the way through and enjoy most songs on it, if not all the songs? If so then what are your favourite albums?

    Very weird mix indeed.
How did you discover Japanese pop music?

If you like Chiyo Okumura, you might like Hikkie's mum Keiko Fuji.

I started getting into it about 7 years ago. As an early teenager people who dressed up in costumes appealed to me so after getting into Ziggy Stardust and the movie Velvet Goldmine I found Visual kei. (with MALICE MIZER, X Japan, Dir en grey, etc..)
After getting out of those bands (the music in that genre really degraded after 2002 or so.) I got into regular Japanese pop music, and through various ways I first found Momoe Yamaguchi in 2003-ish. After finding out just how much she released in such a short amount of time (32 singles, 22 albums in 8 years) I bought a CD and started to find more older artists like Chiyo Okumura.
I've gotten into really old people like early Misora Hibari, Namiki Michiko and The Peanuts, but nothing beats the 60s for me. That's one of the reasons why I started liking Morrissey as much as I do. He and Johnny Marr connected over a Marvelettes single, which is awesome.

Very interesting to know about how you discovered Japanese pop music.
I remember Momoe Yamaguchi phenomenon very well, watched her farewell concert on live TV.
Like USA and UK, 60s Japanese pop has many gems.
