    Default Nyc.

So, i'll be traveling to nyc come march 20th. My connections that were supposed to acquire me Bowery tickets fell through (and thinking I had bowery tickets I didn't attempt to get tickets to the other shows). So while that is unfortunate, i've still got a trip to NYC that i don't plan on wasting. I was hoping some of you could recommend some things for me to do (beyond the average tourist shit-i've done that before).

    Things I like:
    • Vegetarian restaurants
    • Bookstores
    • Record stores
    • Movie theaters that play old movies
    • Bars that play good music and offer cheap PBR
    • And i've never been to brooklyn...so anything there, perhaps?

Also, my boyfriend is looking to get tattooed while we're there. He's interested in old school stuff.

I realize this is kind of random, but considering you all like moz, i think it's inherent you probably have good taste when it comes to other things as well.

I always try to go to these 2 record stores on St. Marks in East Village (I think). One used to be called Rockit Scientist Records, but I think it's Joey's Records now (no, not me).

There is a place almost directly across from it too. I think Kim's or something like that. You can't miss it.

The Strand is cool to see for books, but overpriced sometimes. I did find a Stephen Colbert (and Paul Dinello and Amy Sedaris) autographed book for $7 though

The week you get here, pick up Time Out New York. They always have some good recommendations about bars, restaurants, and entertainment.

    food.(almost all vegan)
s'nice(in brooklyn or manhattan)-ask if they have the chicken potpie wrap.
foodswings(brooklyn)-heavy greasy vegan fast food. amazing.
    vinny's pizza(williamsburg brooklyn)-best vegan slices ever!
atlas(manhattan)-they have 2 locations. good veg food but more importantly, this is the main spot that vegan treats(vegantreats.com) drops off all their deserts. they deliver on tuesdays so make sure you go on a tues evening cause thats when they have everything fresh.
boneshakers(brooklyn) awesome veg food. try the vegan egg an cheese sandwich! also, the deserts are made by one of my good friends.
red bamboo-(brooklyn or manhattan)- veg soul food. the brooklyn location is bigger an fancier an they have a bigger menu last time i was there.
veggie castle(richmond hill queens)- AMAZING! but unless you have a car or want to take 10 trains and 50 different busses, its impossible to get to easy.

    generation records is real good.
there are also some places in north brooklyn(williamsburg, greenpoint, bushwick etc)
    tattoos.
    brooklyn is where its at.
check out my homeboys shop, smith street tattoo http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm...ndID=411982220

I like Bleecker Street Records right off McDougal in the West Village, there's a lot of veggie places around there, matter of fact right around the corner there's a great place called The Olive Tree that specializes in mediterranean/middle eastern food and has a lot of veggie options.

I didn't expect to get such a response! Thank you all!
I've never been satisfied visiting a city 'as a tourist'. I always have such a better time when I feel as though i've seen it like the way anyone who lives there does. I'm sure this will help a lot!

Which shows are you going to? I'm coming from Winnipeg and will be going to the Buffalo show and the one at Webster Hall in New York. I've loved every time I have gone, you should have a great time.

My favorite vegetarian restaurant by far is Angelika Kitchen on East 12th St. (between 1st and 2nd Avenues, closer to 2nd). They also have a take-out next door to the restaurant, so if it's nice weather you might get something to go. There is a great bookstore not far from there, St. Mark's Bookshop (3rd Avenue near the corner of East 9th St.). It's not very big but it's great for browsing. Also very close to there is Other Music (East 4th St. between Broadway and Lafayette). For movies I like Film Forum (http://www.filmforum.org/). I can't really help you out on bars because the ones in my neighborhood are too full of awful people so I prefer to drink wine at home. Anyhow, have fun.

Sorry, it is Angelica Kitchen, no k. But there is a movie theater called the Angelika Film Center and that might be worth a visit too. Quite sure I've got the spelling correct on that one!

I should correct mysef: It's Bleecker Bob's the name of the record store around the corner from MacDougal.
