This is the show that I'm most excited about.
Who else will be there?

I shall be there!
Cindy-loo and I will be there...coming from abingdon,va!!
I'll be there. If you haven't been to the OP before you're in for such a treat.
A few things you should know about the Orange Peel:
1) It's a totally non-smoking venue (you can smoke outside but don't dare do it inside)
2) There is no seating. If you have standing issues this may be a problem as there isn't any seats really anwhere in the place
3) They only serve beer/wine at the venue as far as alcohol goes
4) Be careful about parking - Asheville is known for having predatory towing companies. Your best bet is to make sure you park in a lot or in a deck and walk to the venue. I can't stress this enough - I've known too many people who have been towed.
5) The OP only accepts cash. I think there is an ATM in the building but, not sure about that
6) You may be searched on the way in (sometimes they do, sometimes they don't)
7) The bouncers there are typically pretty strict, I've seen them toss out many folks from shows. They're kind of jerks there so be on your best behavior
this venue is so amazing! The capacity is only like 950 so the shows are very intimate. For all of you who miss this show, I'm so sorry because I think this may go down in the history books as one of the best ever.
If anyone has any questions about Asheville let me know I'll be happy to help.
Baltimoron will be there and is looking forward to this venue!
I still need to get a hotel! Hopefully something close and I'll walk (er, um, crawl) there and back.
There isn't really anything close by unless you want to pay a lot of $$$$ - those within walking distance:
Renaissance Hotel

Four Points by Sheraton

In Biltmore - which would be a very quick cab ride away (5 minutes w/out traffic - 10 mins with traffic) you have:
Sleep Inn

Residence Inn

Doubletree Inn

On the east side of downtown just on the other side of the tunnel
Holiday Inn

I've stayed at the Renaissance before - very nice, but very expensive. I've put clients up at the Doubletree and at the Four Points by Sheraton and they have all loved them both.
Four Points was only 90. I think I'll take that.
$90 - that's a pretty great price - I guess since it's not on a weekend is why it's cheaper. The rates around here on weekends will kill ya.
You'll like this hotel. It's recently been completely remodeled in a boutique style. (Flat screen TVs, granite counters etc). The location is good, easy to get on/off the "240" expressway. The walk the OP is about 7-8 blocks. OH! and if you are vegan and need a good dinner b4 the show. Rosetta's Kitchen is literally 1 block from your hotel. *mmmm yummy*.
I also wanted to throw out too that there is a Days Inn downtown but PLEASE for the love of all that is good and holy in this world stay away from it. It's the most disgusting place AND the road it borders (Ashland Avenue) is the known prostitute/drug dealing hangout.

There are loads of really great dining options in Asheville. Please support our local businessesbesides no one really likes chain restaurants now do they? ha ha ha

Wasabi is right downtown about 3 blocks from your hotel. They're pretty good although, I prefer Umi Sushi in Hendersonville
Record stores .. now you're talkin' and to answer your quetions, On the corner of Lexington and Woodfin (about a block down from your hotel) on the back side of Rosetta's Kitchen is a place called High Voltage Records. I found this killer rare white vinyl live Joy Division album there a few years ago another friend found me a Joy Division "Closer" album there.

Also, over in West Asheville on Haywood Road is Harvest Records - very good place to find a lot of Indie music. You will need to get a cab there or drive over yourself.

I will be there with at least one other lovely lurker.
I'm scribbling down all the note about how evil the venue is right now.
Can we get a Silkwood-esque scrubdown, too?
