A little bit different than yours but I still find this one amazing:

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vesna_Vulovi%C4%87

Vesna Vulović is a former Serbian flight attendant. She holds the world record, according to the Guinness Book of Records, for surviving the highest fall without a parachute: 10,160 meters (33,333 feet).

That was later debunked as Communist propaganda, IIRC.

Love Morrissey, but hate most Morrissey fans? Then this is the FB group for you.

Yes, there is some discrepency on the story but even if 2000-3000 feet, still crazy!

"German ARD radio Prague office research and Czech journalist Pavel Theiner claimed in January 2009 that the plane was shot by accident by the Czechoslovak air force. The plane was broken only few hundred meters above ground, not ten thousand meters as the allegedly fabricated story tells[5]. The report claims that witnesses had seen the (whole) plane below the clouds, i.e. at a few hundred meters, and an expert who had been at the crash site explained that the small size of the debris field indicated the plane had broken up at no more than 2000 to 3000 feet. There were 28 people on the plane and it was flight no. ju 367 from Copenhagen, Denmark to Zagreb. The plane took off at Kastrup Airport."

    jesus.

"The idea of a counterculture is ultimately based on a mistake. At best, countercultural rebellion is pseudo-rebellion: a set of dramatic gestures that are devoid of any progressive political or economic consequences and that detract from the urgent task of building a more just society. In other words, it is rebellion that provides entertainment for the rebels, and nothing much else."
