Morrissey asked my cousin where he was from. He answered Compton, which to Morrissey replied"Oh, so you're straight outta Compton aye?"[QUOTE from Ready With Ready-Wit;830350]

You guys have it real easy. I never had it like this where I grew up. But I send my kids here because the fact is you go to one of the best schools in the country: Rushmore. Now, for some of you it doesn't matter. You were born rich and you're going to stay rich. But here's my advice to the rest of you: Take dead aim on the rich boys. Get them in the crosshairs and take them down.
Yours In Smithdom,
The Comtesse DeSpair
There's more to life than Morrissey and Morbidity, you know... but not much more.

I can see what you're both trying to say... And Refusal is far too awful to be his last album. However, Morrissey's not capable of blowing us away like he did with Vauxhall, so it's impossible for him to ever have a satisfactory retirement!
Here are just some suggestions that David and I have come up with for the rest of Morrissey's career (as you can tell, we're really excited about it):
"I wanna see him getting out of a merc and having a star over his nob in some mag"
"He should quit and live in a shed like Syd Barrett did"
"He should quit, do acid, become an actor"
"I want to see him fuck Kerry Katona in a poorly made porno"
I miss really silly things about Manchester. I miss the kind of things that nobody would understand why they could be missed. I miss the grey slate of the sky. And I miss silly things about Manchester people.
But you're southern, you wouldn't understand. When you're nothern, you're northern forever, and you're instilled with a certain feel for life that you can't get rid of. You really can't.
what a drama queen. i don't think he means a word of that....he's just saying that to stir stuff up and sell tickets![]()
Theres a lot of diffrent belives in the whole statment about quiting.
if it is to whip up sales for tickets? and from what a lot of people feel about YOR,it dont look very good then does it! if he has to make statments like that to sell tickets well some thing is very wrong!
Its a weird feeling like he has prepared us for this day! as for me i just add YATQ to the smiths collection and be happy at that!
Hope after saying this he dont bunk off tour dates!
iam only going to one gig so hope theres no cancelations!
I feel it might be more likely this time around. The seven year hiatus was more or less forced, so maybe retirement was out of the question then. Morrissey's the sort to do things on his terms, and his only. Quarry and ROTT both performed well, in both sales and chart position, so if YOR does equally as well (not heard it yet), he may feel it's the best time to quit. As with life, you got to know when to persevere, or when to throw in your cards and walk away. As for a grand finale, I'm unsure. I did think it might be good for him to do a small EP of new material with Marr (no Rourke or Joyce), no tour and under a different name to Smiths, but maybe it would be better just to quietly disappear into the night.
Well, I'm not so sure. Why?
- He is turning 50, and will obviously promote YoR and tour until say, 2010?
so then he would need another record deal that, as we know, is not easy especially for him because he doesn't sell massive amounts of records and he doesn't play by the Music Industry rules (and thank God for that)
Also, for how long can he keep this up? doing 2 year tours and recording albuns? I mean he will have to stop one day. Also he is an ARTIST and I'm sure he is very self-conscious about himself and his work.
So finally let's talk about YoR:
This album is full of references to a possible bow out.
One day farewell will be goodbye of course, with the final line so grab me while we still have the time
You were good in your time - which may as well be about himself and his fans in the future or even a few of his fans at present who already seem to think that ( I´m NOT included in this group)
All you need is me you're gonna miss me when I'm gone
Finally the lyrics in the album seem to reflect and summarize well what Moz is about: his problems (depression, loneliness) obsessions and refusals (love, death, betrayal, the law)- like the final piece of a Late-Moz Triology.
And YoR ends with I'm OK by myself, which is self explanatory.
I adore Morrissey but I understand and respect what he said in that interview. If he decides to pull the plug, I can only hope for his autobiography and maybe a poetry book (like someone suggested on the main page).
Whatever Happens I will ALWAYS love himand even if he decides to retire, we will always have his art and his words - his life and his amazing world painted over a period of almost 30 years, can we really ask for more?
