    Default do we like bauhaus?

I was talking to somebody about how much I like the Smiths and he said, 'oh, do you like Bauhaus, too?' Bauhaus is tripe, and I don't see much similarity between the two bands.

    Default The Royal 'We'?

Bauhaus IS tripe, however I make an exception for Bela Lugosi's Dead, as it frightens the pants off me. That is rare and not to be mocked at.

Can't understand why anyone would put Smiths / Moz and Bauhaus in the same boat. Unless of course, the person in questions knows @#!!! all about music or is taking the piss ... so in answer to your question, no, I doubt if 'we' do.

thats is probally the worse song IMO that Bauhaus did. other then the humor behind the song. Actually i am more fond of Mr. murphys solo work then anything he ever did with bauhaus¿ Can't understand why anyone would put Smiths / Moz and Bauhaus¿ in the same boat. the reason they put it in the same boat is because alot of the kids involved in that scene(goth/ebm/darkwave/whatever you want to call it and for you cultural starved i dont mean the manson kids) listens to the smiths and bauhaus and the other assorted bands.I think it was these kids that kept him around.. I know when I saw him on the kill uncle tour the 4 shows I attended 85 to 95% of these kids were the same kids you would find at a "goth" show When i 1st got into the smiths the only kids that listend to the smiths/morrissey were these kids.. the social misfits who didnt fit in.. now it's "hip" to like morrissey and while he may not be selling record number album.. it is now more sociably acceptable to listen to morrissey then it was.. now to stir up the hornets nest... You want to speak of rubbish you should talk of Belle and Sebastian..

Murphy's solo work is more interesting, though very uneven. He can be very self indulgent as a songwriter, though he is always delightful as a singer. Like Morrissey, he could sing the phone book and make it sound lovely....

I have not yet heard this group.. ppl seem split on their relative significance.. what is the general consensus about them? I need someone whose opinion I trust to sway me, though...

okay...bauhaus is one of the greatest bands of all time by my opinion of course. "bela lugosi is dead" is one of the best musically written song. there are a few groups that can do what daniel ash can do. it's true that smiths and bauhaus aren't in the same boat but i'm a very open minded person who's into all types of music. i like punk, goth, new wave, ambient, etc.etc..etc...peter murphy neverreally succeeded without the the bauhaus...love in rockets is one of the greatest bands that are around. daniel ash is one creative genuises that is out there in making music. he also has the most amazing voice, it's very euphoric, it will transport you into abliss...hey people if you like joy division, old cure, chameleons, you should definatly like the bauhaus...

Default Belle and Sabastian conversation...boarding now..

Personally I started listening to B&S because of reccomendations from this board. Its not the smiths, its not Morrissey. Listening to them the first time however did bring me back to the first time I heard Morrissey. I first bough Viva Hate becasue there was this really HOT guy in a bathtub in a video that I saw...But when listening to the album, though it was not the type of music I was into at the time, I fell in love with it instantly. Its "New Soup". (My own theory)

"New Soup" being....You want Soup..you love chicken noodle...but the restaurant only has Chicken and rice....Try the new soup. you've heard its good...and if you dont like it, you dont have to eat it...but its not a very serious decision to make. Not life threatening...just...a meager taste of soup..............I recommend "If your feeling sinister"...I liked it. Not everyday....but...when I feel like soup..why not?

I'm glad the B&S thread hasn't completely died out yet, because I have a question: I heard a rumor about a B&S usenet (I believe it was to be called "alt.fan.belle-and-sebastian"). Does anyone else know about this? I NEED to vent out my OBSSESSION!! I haven't checked out the various website groups, so if anyone can reccoment any to me, it would be greatly appreciated.
    Thank you.

Who wouldn't get delicious chills listening to Peter Murphy's voice. It has also said Moz could record nursery rhymes and his fans would swoon!
Two intriguing voices - who could say no?

nope. but people who´ll hang out in graveyards, sleep upside-down in their mum´s closet and dress up like some kind of dead hooker are!!!
and don´t forget, the @#!!!ty attitude, the weird tree-dances and the copious ammount of circus make-up seems like a real party too. and the music! I mean dear, who WASN´T moved by the nine minute odyssey that was fields of the nephilims "psychonaut"-single??? sorry luv, I´ve been wrong all along! I´ll go fetch the sunglasses, the trenchcoat and pour some flour over the ol´cowboy hat, and we´ll have a ball. oh @#!!!, I forgot... the whole thinking world fights us on the dancefloors... guess we´ll have to stay in our coffins, then huh?
