More Adventures in Bad Morrissey/Smiths Covers in Bizarre Places

"Halfway through the NFL's regular season, most of us have finally gotten used to regularly hearing that countrified cover of Morrissey's "Every Day Is Like Sunday" in NFL ads. It's still lame, just not so jarring. So last night I'm watching another OMG amaaazing episode of "Gossip Girl" when all of a sudden I hear the unmistakable riff that kicks off the Smiths' "How Soon Is Now?" Except it was totally mistakable, because I knew that wasn't Johnny Marr. And then some chipmunky female vocals came in and I thought, "Ugh, I really shouldn't be listening to this." And then two underage girls starting taking their clothes off and I thought, "Ugh, I really shouldn't be watching this." Post-show research indicates that it was those Russian kinda-lesbians t.a.t.u. who were butchering the Smiths. You can watch for yourself here but you will feel like a bit of a creep after the fact, I'm just warning you.

Next up in this continuing series: The Salford Lads, who I just noticed on Iota's calendar in December. They are, of course, a Smiths/Morrissey rockabilly cover band."
