This morning on the news (NBC) they interviewed this woman that owns a consignment shop that Sarah Palin used to go to - and for a used clothing store, the prices were kind of steep! $800.00 for a designer purse? Anywhere from $50 to $100.00 for a blouse? I've never seen a consignment shop that was that expensive!

Let's be realistic, everyone who comes into contact with campaign staffers loves an electoral year. Prices get hiked and the campaigns equally get fleeced. It happens all over.

Perfect example? The NYC Department of Eduction. Could someone explain to me why my Democratic supporting union advocates a vendor list that sells books at 3x the price that Amazon.com does? These vendors make ridiculous money off of a city agency. No one says anything because it comes out of tax dollar money allocated to the department and not the individual teachers.

Oh yeah, and textbooks are muy expensive. And when you try to sell them, you get about $5 for a $65 textbook. Aren't there a lot of teachers who buy various items for their classrooms out of their own pocket? I think anything over 3x Amazon is NUTS.

I buy out of my own pocket when I want something that is not on the vendor list. I was allowed to incorporate a heavy dosage of US Constitutional Law into my honors class but I had to buy all the materials.

However if I want a text book why should I pay $20 a copy for 40 copies out of my own money when my union arranged it that tax dollars will pay $75 a copy for $40 copies. People ask me why I would back a repub for educational reform. The answer is because the Dems are clinging to a system of less parent, child and teacher accountability and simply believe that they should continue to pump money into this system.

Hey whatever. I do not agree with ALL republican educational reforms but certain things needs to be changed.

Another example - I think SNS22 mentioned it. We require a psych test for firemen and policemen but not teachers. Explain why not?
