Its like sailing on the Titanic with an Ostrich on lookout duty...

Hey, just wanting to ask about WinkWink, he's missed on the forums.. :tears:

Can someone tell me when he'll be allowed back, please???... :(

Appearently all he did was "whine" and then wrote Kewpie a PM letting her know that he wasn't posting like she suspected, and then he got a permanent ban for that??? We all know that there are several people around here who have done wayyyyy worse than that, and they get away with it, so why not give the guy a chance, he's always been nice and respectful to everyone.

Just saying.... :o

This is exactly what I was was talking about a few days when I said people don't see the entire picture and then think that one isolated incident happened and can't imagine why that person is gone when someone else did X. Also, not all things are based on a single event. Often a user builds up to a point where they are given infractions.

I can truly appreciate the curiosity that this stirs in people because it would stir mine.

I don't know if or when he will be back but as previously banned people have shown, with the right attitude and actions it can happen.

Why not help everyone out and explain what the big picture is when someone gets banned? davidt is always asking us to cite examples of Kewpie's mis-moderation, yet none of the mods offer anyone any examples of why people get banned.

This is one of those things that I know really frustrates people but if I start explaining what happened it is going to lead to two problems at a minimum. The first being that people will then expect a full explanation with example any time someone is banned. The second is it will lead to a debate over if the banning was fair or not, who else deserved to be ban during that time, who else should be banned for what is perceived to be the same actions.

The only person who can contest moderation is the person who was given some sort of infraction. There really is no benefit to the mods to actually open Pandora's can of worms.

I know that this answer is not one that you will be satisfied with but I hope you can appreciate that I at least took the time to explain my point of view rather than just ignoring your post all together.

Yes, thank you. I still don't see what's wrong with people expecting a full explanation or debating whether the ban was fair. Wouldn't you rather that people did those things knowing the moderator's reasons for the ban, rather than idly speculating about them?

I'm sorry to jump in, I just want to say that some kind of explanation would be appreciated and it would also prevent us from speculations, conspiracy theories and the resulting overall bad mood.

You took a picture of Spike and me. You should be sending it to me! :)

That, I will need to find.

Spike liked my wife a lot. I liked him. :D

What difference does it make? TOS is applied unequally members. Everything is as unjust as David wants it.

It is not an easy position to be in because there is no way I can do the right thing.

I could give you a list of things that some user did to get banned. His or her friends in turn will start trying to defend them or argue against the infraction. Getting into this kind of debate really serves no purpose as the moderators believe that infraction is right and you are then trying to convert the unconvertable. On the flip side, the mods would be trying to convert you to their point of view. This too would not happen.

I'm not saying this would happen in every case but it would happen in some and that alone makes it not worth it.

WW is more than welcome to contact davidt personally and ask him what he needs to do to get himself back on the boards.

Ideally, I'd be able to say "User A did x, y and z and therefore has been banned." and know that this would be the end of it but we all know that it wouldn't be.

I'd like to suggest people to read following Dave's post which may help you to understand how a private site is maintained:

http://forums.morrissey-solo.com/showthread.php?t=70142#5

And why is this thread useful? I read it and neither davidt nor the moderators posted on it.

Okay, I totally understand your point, I just think it would be useful to find a midway solution.

Fair enough, I just made a suggestion, that's all.

She can talk for herself but she did suggest reading Dave's comments. I suppose because he is making good sense.
I am with bored on the fact that if you set up discussion as to why someone was banned then you would have 5 people pick at it and complain. Even if reasons were given there would still be someone picking and complaining.
People seem to think bannings happen all the time, they really don't. Some bannings say 3 or 4 have been 1 person. So it might look like a lot.

As I said to bored, I understand what you're saying, but I still think saying something is better than saying nothing. But if my suggestions are ignored, it's okay, I can live with it. I understand that this is a private site, and although I don't agree with a lot of things, I appreciate the work put into the running of this site and I accept that some things are beyond me. And I like it here.

If you have a suggestion as to how the moderators can inform people as to why someone was banned without creating any problems I am all for it.

If there are people who are speculating and letting the minds run wild as to what might have happened that is merely a reflection of themselves, not me.

When I log out, I don't think about who might be trying to return to the site and post trolls. I don't worry about what backroom conspiracy might be going on between a bunch of users who are up to no good. I tune it out completely.

The not knowing and the speculation can work both ways. I simply choose not allow that to be part of what goes on in my mind. I hope that everyone can come here and talk about Morrissey, get the news, get the concerts, etc. I understand curiosity but it shouldn't be so strong that it detracts from the great content that is available here.

What's wrong with problems?

Many of us think that this site is about a lot more than Morrissey. If it weren't, then Off-topic wouldn't exist (and wouldn't be the most active part of the site).

Life is far too long to fill it up with problems.

It is but having said that, I don't worry about the off topic stuff when I'm not around either.

Of course, one of the things that Off Topic does is it gives people a good place to troll and flame.

I have in the past suggested a Flamebait section.
The type of thing where anything goes except for posting personal info or porn.

It would basically go unmoderated.

In return, moderation on flaming and trolling in the moderated sections would go up a bit where posts would be moved to unmoderatred when people started getting simple and if people kept taking their trolls/flames to the moderated areas they would get banned.

I've seen this work on another board.
I did suggest this in the past. I don't know if I elaborated this much on it but it was obviously rejected.

Well, it worked in my case, got the answers I needed, ... so thx :) <3
