Ummmmmmmmmmmmm, can I just point out GAP are no longer unetical, actually, after they got done for using sweatshops they got a lot more careful. Yes, I do shop at these places, and I don't really feel anything about it.

If you believe they've actually stopped using sweatshops that's endearingly naive.

Hatfull can only go by what she reads in the press and the publicity from the GAP.

Do you know otherwise?

I don't want to be funny or sound like an expert, as I am not. That link is to something dated televised Sunday October 15 2000.
It would seem more recently GAP have taken steps towards stop using 'Sweatshops'.

These Links would also be of interest to people who don't want to buy sweatshop clothing. I was just reading that 90-95% of the clothes we wear are produced in sweatshops.

I was just using it as an example that you can be sure they're no doing what they say they're doing. If you trust multinational corporations you're being stupid.

It wasn't a very good example as it is very dated.

But you trusted the journalism of the British Broadcasting Corporation in that link!

Do you buy clothes from companies that use sweatshops, or are generally unethical (i.e. anti-Unionism, sexism, racial discrimination)?

Vote yes if you buy from: Primark, GAP, H&M, Top Shop, Mothercare, Nike, Adidas, Zara, Mango, Marks and Spencers, George (Asda), New Look, Wal-Mart, Tommy Hilfiger, Target, Old Navy, Banana Republic, Matalan, Disney, Levi's, New Era, Burberry, Tescos, Puma, Reebok, Lacoste, New Balance, North Face, Timberland, L.L. Bean, Calvin Klein, Macy's, Abercrombie & Fitch or Ralph Lauren.

If you do, does it bother you, or do you not really care?

It seems I do, I've bought clothes from most of those shops, and I do feel bad about it :( But, if one person makes a decision to not buy from a certain shop, it's not going to make much a of a difference. It would need the whole customer market to refuse to buy, otherwise the company wouldn't take much notice and those people are still going to be working in the sweat shops. Disgraceful and immoral but that's the way businesses make profit

I trust the BBC more than GAP. :p Can't we just talk about DMs again? :sweet:

Ok....maybe your right on that, that is a BIG maybe as well. I agree, DMs are a much better topic:)

So where can I buy clothes from?

Oh you can send me your measurements, but my kids don't sew.

do you sew? I thought their little fingers would be prefect for the small details.

They launder the sweatshop clothes that I purchase.

i try and only buy clothes made by children under 6 or 7, they are very good at sewing.:p

honestly, it depends on the basis of why it is called a sweatshop for me to be really worried about it, if one is just talking about low wages i really do not have any care, well it wont trouble me, if we are talking unhealthy environments and basically forced labor then that's another story.

No, I don't really have the time to sew these days....you know, between kids, work, and morrissey-solo :o

As a matter of fact, sometimes instead of hemming my slacks, I use two-sided carpet tape...Yes, I know how lame that is.

Exactly....in some parts of the world, comparatively speaking that "criminally low wage" is much better than no wage at all....and I also agree that the forced labor/unhealthy environments is another story.
