new replacement song followed with a tentative promise of new music. yay
"The Replacements have been playing a new song called "Whole Foods Blues" at some of their recent concerts. Now, you can watch a video of the song in full. Check out below, via Stereogum. Here are the opening lines: "I went down to Whole Foods / To get something good to eat." (It's, uh, about going to Whole Foods.)
In other news, the Replacements are planning a whole lot more than one new song. According to Billboard, the reunited band has produced seven or eight songs over two recording sessions. "It's just a question of what the band wants to ultimately do with them," said the band's co-manager, Darren Hill.
While the band isn't returning to the studio until their current tour concludes in the summer, Billboard reports they've planned two vinyl box sets: One of their Twin/Tone releases (1981's Sorry Ma, Forgot to Take Out the Trash, 1982's Stink, 1983's Hootenanny, and 1984's Let It Be) and Sire releases (1985's Tim, 1987's Pleased to Meet Me, 1989's Don't Tell a Soul and 1990's All Shook Down). Rhino will release those box sets in the summer. (A full-catalog box set already came out this month.)
They're also cooperating on a biography titled Trouble Boys by writer Bob Mehr and working on a deal to make a documentary with "Oscar-winning filmmakers," as Hill tells Billboard.
Last year, it was reported that the band were "likely" making another album. In December, they shared a 24-minute jazz improvisation called "Poke Me in My Cage".

It's come to me late in life...I've gone oatmeal-patty batty.
Don't see that stopping soon, as a kitteh with its paws tied behind its back could make the stuff...
