Not the Piaf with guitars, a Piaf with guitars.

God forbid anyone ever mess with the original - that would be unforgivable.

By the way, my father actually saw Piaf live - can you imagine?

I don't want to imagine, but I could. I am going to Paris in August to go to the Père Lachaise and 72 Rue De Belleville. I actually have a tattoo - 'Mon Dieu'.

    Ah, a true romantic.

I always stop by Pere Lachaise, and pay my respects to Oscar, Edith, Sarah and a few others. I leave lilies, and read the notes...

i think also ith would be more fitting when he uses more big epic-quiet songs like in the style of
trouble loves me,come back to camden, late night, maudlin street,i know its gonna happen someday
NOT TO FORGET: THE SONG" I CHANGED MY PLEA TO GUILTY"!
s those kind of epic song is important on a morrissey record
its missing on southpaw...no wonder the critics hate it so...

or from the smiths era last night i dreamt that somebody loved me and , i know its over

these were the style which fitted him back then and even more now...

but i think as long as jesse tobias
(who is surely talented but i would prefer to see him with someone else) is on the desk he will stick to songs like :boy happy...
and even though i like the lyrics to all you need is me the music is too formula-rock structured ....
Morrissey asked my cousin where he was from. He answered Compton, which to Morrissey replied"Oh, so you're straight outta Compton aye?"[QUOTE from Ready With Ready-Wit;830350]
Ich weiss nicht, zu wem ich gehöre-ich glaub ich gehör`nur mir ganz allein"(I dont know to whom I belong to,I think I only belong to myself)Friedrich Holländer-1932-

I'd argue that "Southpaw" is close enough to that kind of epic song.

And that's a pity. Morrissey's backing music, for the most part, has been completely uninteresting since the early 90s; most of the melodies would be completely forgettable if they weren't paired with his singing. It's a huge, huge waste of his talent.

Love Morrissey, but hate most Morrissey fans? Then this is the FB group for you.

    A real life romantic.
I plan on paying Oscar and Marcel visits too. I may also venture over to the Montparnasse and say hello to Serge.

I disagree. I think that "Southpaw" was an awful song, and no where near as poignant and indeed 'epic' as Vauxhall & I - although that seems to be common knowledge amongst the majorities. ROTT bore moments of the brilliance we are clawing for - 'Dear God..', 'Life Is A Pigsty', 'At Last I Am Born'. I loved ROTT for the contrast, but I think his harder sounds are becoming cliche.

Years Of Refusal would benefit from interesting instrumentation and delicacy.

We hope the omission of Jim from that list is not accidental.

God Bless Jim - he lived and died a cliche.

I really like MDL and don't see it as a departure, but a continuation of one of a number of threads Morrissey has long pursued.
I don't want to hear a particular sound on YOR, but to hear a range of stories, emotions expressed, tempo, etc... to feel I have been surprised, and challenged too. M is capable of much but I think chooses his releases carefully. He can take on influences and new arrangements but not so easily other people's work.
The cover of the Buzzcocks song (I saw a snip of on youtube) - didn't sound like he was engaging with the lyrics. And I've not heard the original, so there's no comparing going on.

Each album has it's own distinctive "feel". This no different I hope.

All I want for the sound of Years of Refusal is something catchy, urgent, and loud. I guess I'm aiming low, but that's alright.

    Without a in sight?
I understand this and I can see it happening someday. I always thought maybe he and Mikey would put together an act. But not right now.

I have this theory that Morrissey's rock side is sometimes overlooked but I think he really is a rock and roller. And he would probably deny that. I don't know.

that is a fake picture. there are plenty of reasons to dislike Axl but many of those are the reasons I like him.

I'm not really into "torch singer" Moz...I do like it when he rocks out. Wasn't ROTT supposed to be "balls to the wall"? Personally, I would like it to be sinister, like the strings on 'Teachers Are Afraid...' & when Morrissey's voice sounds kind of whispered or tense. Hmm, not sure how to explain. Maybe more spoken rather than sung. Like 'Maladjusted' and then get all 'wailing' at the end...falsetto

I want lots of loud guitars and I don't believe I'll be let down.

It's a fake picture though... Hmmm.
You're just as bad as those non-Morrissey fans who think Morrissey (and his fans) are delusional, miserable malcontents.
But if you're happy in your naive little "let's-judge-people-by-appearances-and-what's-said-in-the-media-about-them" world then who am I to shatter that...

I cannot stand his music, what his music stands for, his appearance, or what his appearance stands for. if his music and image, of which i am not completely oblivious to, is anything to go by - then he is a self righteous 80s has been. and i suppose the beauty of this forum is that everyone is entitled to an opinion, and shouldn't be judged or branded for it.
