Morrissey Hidden Lyric?

Hi Everyone,

At 2 minutes and 54 seconds into the song "The Queen Is Dead" Morrissey sings in a muffled hum "All Those Lies About Make-Up And Long Hair, There Still There". Any thoughts as to why Morrissey included the line in the song but not in the printed lyrics? Or how the line ties into the theme of the song? The studio version appears to be the only recorded version that includes the lyric as Morrissey seems to excluded the line whenever he has performed the song live.
What is your take on this semi-hidden lyric?

to be completely honest, I don't think I've ever really noticed this, or if I have, it's never really jumped out at me. It's a good lyric though, and I works in well with the "Charles don;t you ever crave ..." part of the song. I guess Morrissey is just trying to say there are skeletons in the royal closet, just as there are skeletons in everyone else's closet. I don't really think it adds all that much other than that.

Ben - I believe Morrissey actually used this hidden lyric as a trivia question for some contest at KROQ (something like "in what song is the line 'All those lies about makeup and long hair, they're still there' a hidden lyric"?) back in 1995 or 1996. He didn't say why it was hidden, though.

This was used as a trivia question on the Reprise website in 1996. I actually was the first to submit the correct answer and I got a signed copy of a Southpaw Grammar poster in the mail a few days later.
