I remember The Smiths and, although Morrissey was blindingly talented and compelling, he was not that sexy to me.
During the Kill Uncle era he was staggeringly beautiful, but I did not find him all that interesting.
During the Vauxhall era, he finally got it all together. Man Perfected.
What amazes me is how well he's doing now, in his almost-fifties. Being beautiful in your youth takes little conscious effort. It's easy to be attractive in your prime as well - it is your prime, after all.
But to be sexy at this relatively late date, that really is quite an accomplishment. That is what finally drew me in. Last time I saw Morrissey I swooned with pleasure - he was joyful, confident, and radiated a kind of playful, edgy virility that I find intoxicating, and that I will never forget.
