Come on someone must agree?
I don't quite know what you mean.....but you must know that he died a long time ago!
The story was so sad....he had been dead in his flat in the NY Chelsea hotel for some time before he was found.
Have you managed to get the Japanese CD releases (released December 2007 I believe)? They are stunning.![]()

Other folks dispute the "died alone and left to rot" story, but that's by the by. I have some low bitrate/vinyl crackle mp3s of both the albums and would love to hear the nice shiny versions, but the price of the Japanese releases is (to me, at any rate) prohibitive.![]()
I read somewhere that Morrissey owns the rights to Jobriath's stuff, but I have no idea if that's true. Anyone got reliable info?
EDIT: Nice link here to a memoriam website by Jobriath's half-brother http://www.williepee.com/jobriath.html
Interesting bloke, Jobriath....

Hmmm....regards to who owns the copyrights to his stuff is a bit tricky. Morrissey definetely had talks with Rhino a long time ago (2003?) about releasing the 2 Jobriath albums on CD. But it never materialized. Then when Moz got his deal with Sanctuary/Attack the "Lonely Planet Boy" was put together by Moz. I think it was mainly Morrissey who wanted to get the compilation released.
It's kind of sad that Jobriath was never really appreciated - although he was a HUGE influence on people like Siouxie, The Sex Pistols, etc. And Elton John and Def Leppard too! But I do agree; He is a bit like Marmite - you either Love or Hate his stuff.

At the risk of sparking a Jobriath Frink thread.....

I've read this too, that the tapes were purchased from an auction producer Eddie Kramer had in 2004 this is pretty much the only information I can find about it - http://roadrunnerrecords.com/blabber...wsitemID=23902
Anyway I seem to remember that is was either Sactuary or Morrisseys management at the time that made the actual purchase so that the 'lonely planet boy' CD could be released under the attack label. I'm not sure if he personally owns the tapes or rights to the material, they may have been purchased and given to him but sanctuary might still own them.
I've also read that a couple of people are writing books about him but I've no idea who if they will ever be published!
If it happens, the in-fighting should be interesting....

Haha, this was the guy I was thinking of when I said I'd read there was a book being written, thanks for the link. It's a shame that his website has gone now, it was very good, loads of streams of rare recordings and loads of quotes from people taking about Jobriath. It's a shame he didn't get to finish that book too. This is the website he's talking about run by John Michael Cox, Jr. It says that a guy called Rob Cochrane is writing a book, I don't know how much truth is in it though

Ooh, I'm on a roll, now!
"Sunday Brunch". The artiste formerly known as Jobriath tickles the ivories and chats.
There's also this "Jobriath and his Mom" slideshow (assembled by Jobriath's younger half-brother), which you can't embed, but the soundtrack of which is an unreleased Jobriath song. Read the comments, too, for mentions of more unreleased material and the ownership thereof.
