Thread: What is your top 3 concerts

Smile What is your top 3 concerts

I apologise if this has been discussed before, but......

Who, where and when would you class in your top 3 favourite concert.

    Mine would be:

1 - Morrissey - 22 May 2004, Manchester MEN. Mozza playing Manchester for the first time in 12 years, in the week his first album after a seven year gap is released, on his 45th birthday. And boy did he deliver, absolutely brilliant. The DVD release didn't do it any justice at all.

2 - Pink - July 2007, Edinburgh. Her gigs in arenas might be heavily choreographed but on a small stage outside Edinburgh Castle, she had no dancers or fancy stage show just her, her band and a couple of backing singers and she was fantastic and very cute.

3 - James Blunt - January 2005, Paris. It may be fashionable to mock Mr Blunt but in a tiny venue in the French capital, James Blunt held the crowd mesmerised in his hand as he went through a setlist that showed why he was one of the best new songwriters. Unfortunately his rapid rise to fame may well be ultimate down fall.

    hmmm...

Interviewer: Did you hear Tatu's version of 'How Soon Is Now'?
Morrissey: Yes, it was magnificent. Absolutely. Again, I don't know much about them.
Interviewer: They're the teenage Russian lesbians.
    Morrissey: Well, aren't we all?

    Morrissey-Hollywood Palladium 10/11/07
high energy crowd, i was about 4 back, great setlist (aside from Disco Dancer) caught the shirt, was trampled by/crushed under 40 people, lost the shirt, some girl died (or something)

    Morrissey-Open Air Theatre (san diego)
my second Moz show and the only SD show he made the effort for.

Spent Idols/Rebel Rebel-The Soul Kitchen (El Cajon)
the soul kitchen was about as big as a kitchen. Spent Idols play fairly straight forward punk but put on a good show. Rebel Rebel are all giant goofy Kiss-looking motherfuckers. they brought in a bunch of old TVs and smashed 'em up with hammers, sprayed fire extinguishers until the room was full of white fog, they set the curtains on fire and pulled the lighting out of the ceiling. i got socked in the face by a girl and bled all over myself and the show ended when lead singer Jett set a baby carriage on fire and ran out of the club and down the street with it. i felt real concern for my physical well-being and it was awesome!

hard to narrow this down to three:

Morrissey – Star Plaza (Merrillville, IN) 2007 (honorable mention Moz at World Music Theater in IL in 1991)

Duran Duran – Rosemont Horizon (IL) 1984 and House of Blues (Chicago) 2001

The Who - Alpine Valley (Wisconsin) 2 nights in 1989

Big Audio Dynamite – The Riviera Theater (Chicago) 1991
(honorable mention to BAD in 1995 at the Belmont Street Fair in the fucking 7 Eleven parking lot at the end of my street!)

#1: Morrissey, Sept 20th 2007 El Foro, Tijuana, Mexico
The stars seemed totally misaligned that night...one of my friend's friends dragged us like 10 blocks away from the venue to eat dinner at 7pm and the show was starting at 8pm. I was SOOO upset because I really wanted to queue and get up front at the show! We didn't get inside until Kristeen Young was literally walking off the stage. However, somehow one of my friends and I managed to get about 4 people from the barrier by the end of the show. Morrissey took my geeky fangirl letter I had for him and rubbed it all over his sweaty face and chest. This ranked as my #1 show because I had been so stressed/upset about getting there late and to end up getting close enough for him to see me was freaken awesome!

#2: David Bowie, Feb 7th 2004, Wiltern, Los Angeles, CA
A pretty small venue...Macy Gray opened and rocked OUT. I couldn't believe how good she was (I think Mikey Farrell might have played with her that night, but I can't remember). David Bowie...so good. I was mesmerized. I was so close I could see his two different colored eyes! The man has some serious androgynous sex appeal. He sang "Under Pressure" with his female guitarist and I was floored.

#3: The Strokes, Mar 30th 2004, SOMA, San Diego, CA
I just love them. Small-ish venue and they sang like every song they had recorded at that time. It really shouldn't make it to my top 3 because the place was so hot I thought I was going to die during the show. But other than that, the show was awesome!

Although I'm not a fan of the Rolling Stones at all, I saw them on their Steel Wheels tour ('89?), and it was an amazing production.

Suzanne Vega at Chicago's Park West in 1996 or 1997. Newly married to producer Mitchell Froom, she rocked with a jazzy/electric set.

I'm embarrassed to say this, but The Escape Club ("Wild Wild West") put on a great show at Six Flags Great America a year or two after their one hit (~1990?). It was free with a park admission, and even then, I didn't want to go. But seriously, they rocked.

I was thinking about this concert too. Yes, it did rock. I saw them at Alpine Valley in WI. It started to pour down rain so a ton of people left, so we moved up to the front of the lawn for a handful of their last songs and the encores. I was so wasted but it was a great experience all-around.

I was 16 or 17, and was wasted only because we were standing behind a couple of 40-something stoners.
