    Default The dishwasher appreciation thread

.....but as I said to Mr Reallymatters only last night "if the telly blows up I really couldn't give a shit...but if my dishwasher backfires I want a new one ON THE SAME DAY or there's no bloody dinner!"

    I my dishwasher!

You sound like my husband...he really is The Kitchen Police...he arms himself with the kitchen multi-surface spray and woe betide ANYONE who gets in his way!

Silver?...sounds very swish!...mine is built-in so has a rather fetching beech frontage...but it's what goes on "under the bonnet" of those little babies that really matters!

I have to say that my husband and I have never had a dishwasher, and we've never missed it.

It's just one of those modern conveniences that doesn't make sense for two people. We bought our first house not too long ago, and we gutted, designed and installed everything ourselves, and we agreed - no dishwasher.

Everything gets washed by hand in a stone sink, which we both fetishize, and get much pleasure out of.

Plus I cook, he cleans, so it works out for me.

    'Woe betide'...

That's a 1970's Mothers' warning if I ever heard one...

My Mothers favourite was the old classic "Just wait 'til your Father gets home"... however, when my Father got home.. he would just say.. "ohhh..they are only Kids"... which would incense my Mother no end - thus causing a row. She never really cottoned on to this concept..

I would agree that just for two of you a dishwasher might be kitchen equiptment over-kill...but when you add a couple of kid's into the mix it is indispensible...so the time you save washing-up can be spent on ironing...cleaning...making packed lunches...doing homework...SCREAMING!

I remember the first apartment I ever had that came with a dishwasher... it was so lovely. But I lived alone, so it took me at least three days to fill it.

I just got a new one, the builder's-standard one that came with the house was starting to crap out, so I picked out a pretty new stainless steel one with an extra-large interior and concealed buttons. It doesn't do as good a job as the old one. But it's so quiet I don't even care. It's running right now, and all you can hear is an occasional trickle of water. There are few things I love better than this time of the morning. I take the kids to school, put in a load of laundry, start the dishwasher, put some music on, and get a couple of hours of good work in while my machines do my work for me...

See if you have never had one you don't really see the benefit...once you've had one...you would never go back!
